I was only out there for about 10 minutes. The property was there when I pulled in so I spent about 20 minutes talking to him. I was walking to my predetermined destination when I heard three birds gobbling. I hurried up and sat down and let out one soft yelp series. They gobbled. I went quite and the got a little closer and gobbled again. I did some aggressive cutting and a little louder yelping. They cut me off gobbling. I put my call away because I knew I had them on the hook. It was just a minute later all three came into the field. One strutting. They came out in front of me about 60 yards and veered off. I took a shot at the last bird and missed. He flew off and the other 2 ran to the fence with me in hot pursuit. I created the rise I found one only 35 yards running straight away from me. Dropped him in his tracks. Such a tough season but looking back I loved every minute of it. Well, almost every minute. I have him cut up, ran through the food saver and in the freezer. 22 lbs, first beard is 10 1/4" second beard is 6 1/4". Both spurs are 7/8".

Congratulations to everyone that was able to get it done this year. I ended up with tag for dinner. Been a long time since I have been shut out. It was definitely a tough season. Was hopeful to get out this weekend and it just didn't happen. Friday the daughter and I had a farrier in to trim horse, Saturday we raced. And that turned out bad. Never good to be on fire. Thank God for safety crew and good safety equipment. Then today I just spent all day cooking and time with family. Mom, wife, sister and all there other halfs. Enjoyed Mothers Day. Looking forward to next year's turkey season all ready.

NOW the birds show up. I was at my hunting place working and saw a group of 4-5 toms at noon, then at 4 saw a group of 9-10 hens. Where were they a week ago?

That’s for sure. Had a gobbler roosted no more then 100 yards out my back door yesterday. Never had one in the tree that close to the house before.

So true. I decided not hunt this time with all the projects going on. Water line grading-seeding, new pole barn, moving garden, and bees. Forgot the most important, my son's University of Cincinnati BSEE graduation. During the season I had Tom's and hens within 50 yards most days while working. Messed up. I should have bought my license and have the gun handy. Won't happen next spring!!! I need to camo the gun to looks like a shovel or hammer. They seem to know that you're not hunting. Maybe my moaning and groaning called them it.

Geese sure know when it’s hunting season. They are all over my pond spring and summer until September. Then they disappear like clock work. Got six sets of hatchlings now. Most I have seen in awhile.
