Guys, just an FYI. With water temps increasing in private ponds, if you catch any Hybrid Striped Bass you basically have 2 choices. 1) Palm the spool as soon as they hit so you pop the line/pull the hook or 2) Bring them to shore and keep them.
Once surface water temps hit 75°F, there isn't enough O2 in the water to allow the HSB's to recover and they will usually die once released. They might not die right away, but in a day or two you probably will see them floating if the turtles or other scavengers haven't gotten to them yet.
I'm talking about Hybrid Striped Bass in ponds that are over a pound or so, the smaller ones usually come in a lot quicker so they usually are OK to release. It's easier on the fish if you net them than to drag them up on shore, netting them doesn't disrupt the slime coat as much as dragging them on the ground.

Every summer I see a bunch of floaters on Monroe.

Even with the humidity today I got enough for our supper in a day or two. A dozen bluegills, small bass, and one of the two cat that hit. Got the gills on a mix of ultralight crank bait (and the bass) and sponge spider. Cat bit on a lung from a groundhog pup I got with the pellet rifle from the neighbor's yard. Going to have to start keeping squirrel and rabbit lungs for cat bait!

Nice!!! Looks like all male 'gills except one. They on the beds again? Everything caught along a bridge going to a small island on a private pond. Owner was worried about overstocked catfish and now has decided to put his house and property up for sale. Said to keep whatever was eating size!

I'm fishing this Saturday. Hope to catch some crappie and bass. No plans for Bud, but maybe a couple Sam Adams.

We ended up with 40 gills and 15 red ears in two days. They were all 8 inches or better. Some over 11 inches. Got one big pile of fillets.

Not too bad this evening at the clean out pond. Owner came out for a little bit and fished with one of my poles and put the first bass in the cooler tonight.

Those are some fat channel cats!!!
I came home and saw that someone was trying to fish in my pond. I sat in the truck and watched to see if they caught one, but no. I watched for about 10 minutes and when it landed in a tree I got out of the truck - it was an Osprey looking for dinner. Pretty cool, it was just doing circles around the pond looking. I threw out some fish food, but the bird flew off and didn't come back. I've seen one before, and to be honest, I don't mind if they get a fish or 2, they are pretty neat to watch.

Hit the pond again last night.
Had another 4# male channel cat on my first pole before I could even get the second one baited. The owner came out again last night and I had brought along my wife's Zebco 33 for him to bass fish with. He ended up putting 5 in the cooler for me that were 10-12" long. He had made a comment that there was a pretty nice bass in that 1 acre pond, but he had not caught it in a while. I told him that I caught a nice one 2 weeks ago and had put it back. Not 2 minutes after he quit fishing and went back in the house I used that same Texas-rigged rubber worm to pull in a 3# bass and I took it to show him as his front door is about 75' from the edge of his pond. He was glad to see the bigger bass was still alive and well. I returned that one to the pond again.
