Kept another cat tonight.
Caught 5 bass, but released them. I don't want to completely deplete the bass population in his pond even if he is throwing every one he catches into my cooler. 😁

It won't hurt the pond one bit to keep 20#-30# per surface acre. Annually you are supposed to remove 20# of Largemouth Bass per surface acre per year starting 3 years after initial stocking to keep the bass from over populating.

I used the county GIS site the other day to measure his pond and it is 1 acre exactly.

Hey essup, ever hear of crawdads digging through a dam causing it to leak? Yes. Other culprits can be old tree roots that died and are decomposing leaving an open pathway for water, muskrats and beavers. Even heard of a mole causing an issue between two ponds. BUT, if the dam is properly constructed with a compacted core trench then crawdads aren't usually an issue, beavers are the worst.

Have gotten rid of muskrats and beavers when they show up. The operator said he saw a lot of crawdads and holes while digging below the break. He also mentioned the dam is almost exclusively clay which is highly unusual. My pond is over 60 years old and just over 3.5 acres. I redid it 18 years ago. Cleaned up the sides, killed all the fish and pulled out sludge. Started over from scratch.

My fishfinder hard at work! Nice haul You figure out where that’s at yet? I was out in the run about tonight. Fished with shrimp while family swam. Not very productive. Tossed at some surface action by the dam but no takers

Tossed at some surface action by the dam but no takers I went out Wednesday evening and pretty much the same result. Lots of baitfish getting hit on the surface but no takers on anything that I threw.

Ended up with a few more fish. 3 good sized wipers and 2 catfish. Had 5 good fish either get off or break the line.
