I started hunting in 1997. I remember hunting Warrick County and could only take does the last weekend of firearms or something like that. Seems like around 03 was when they quit doing that and moved to the anterless quotas. I think what you are remembering is the draw for antlerless tags. I'm not sure when that changed, but I think it was still going in 97. I'd go to a hardware store in Loogoottee on my way home from IU to buy a left-over tag from the draw for Martin Co. I'm not sure either. I never put in for any. I do recall when the DNR was at war with the deer in the mid-90s and we could buy all the doe tags we wanted at Walmart. Warrick was allotted 500 doe tags and when they were gone that was it. We drove past the Walmart in Boonville on our way to go hunting and the line was out the front door. You could only buy one at a time but you could go back as many times as you wanted to until they ran out of doe tags...

In the early 90's I would apply (by mail!) for a Warrick Co. tag because it was harder to get from the draw. My uncle owned some ground in Gentryville that was full of deer. It seems like Martin always had leftovers for purchase.

I remember putting in for doe tags in the summer, just like we do for the reserve hunts now. A guy told in about 1989 or so, "before long if you want to kill a doe,all you will have to do is go buy another license". I said "you are crazy"! Guess not, LOL!

Late antlerless season should be down with alot less counties participating BUT looks like total for year is going to be around 110 to 111,000 deer.

My brother neighbor took a big doe today. I took my two stands down to check for safety integrity.

Should get a good feel for how the late antlerless season is going to go with this weekend results. (Lot less counties participating). Pretty good forecast so I'm going to predict 1500 ish for Fri-Sat-Sun.
