Greetings. Happy New year to you all. Got the flu just after Christmas and boy did it sort me, think most of the UK has it. Back to work but the deer are scarce, not moving much at all. They are full of fat and not hungry at all, the weather has been so mild up to now that the grass has been growing. Hopefully once they get hungry i will see more. Today I saw,two and managed to get one of them. But just got to keep going Out looking and plugging away at them. Regards Billy.

Greetings ALL IS WELL THAT ENDS WELL.
This morning I woke up to snow and thick fog, I decided to go up into the high ground to try to clear the fog. Got up there in four wheel drive it wasn't great but at least I could see a bit better. Found two does with the thermal imager out on a restock, the wind was not good but Bailey the dog and I set off for a go at them. As we went slowly towards them i tried to get a range on them but the binocular rangefinder just would not work in those conditions. I set the scope for two hundred yards, next time I looked they were moving , they had got a sniff of us on the wind i suspected. I set the sticks up one turned i put scope on it and sent the bullet. The deer ran downhill but by its reactions i knew it was hit, it stopped looking around so I put another minute of angle on the scope took aim sent it and the animal disappeared from the scope. Bailey and I set off over awful rough ground covered in snow so I was really taking one step at a time. We got in the area of the first strike and Bailey did not mess around she got to the job right away. First she got onto the deer that was not hit, I let her sort herself out then she started heading down hill, as I looked down i could see a single drop of blood every few yards. The first bullet had gone low and clipped it they had been further than i thought, I just kept calling Bailey back so as I could follow her, she is much faster than a sixty year old bad tempered dwarf, lol. She took me right to it laying dead in a drain with a 308 through both shoulders, now the work starts getting it back out of that hell hole.
It was a very slow retrieve one step at a time. I was stupid i forgot to take the spot on personal tracker with me, had i twisted an ankle or broken a leg then I was in serious trouble in those temperatures. On The way out i thought about that. We have had three of us die through out the years, two with heart attacks and one man with a broken leg, it took that long to find him the poor man died of hyperthermia . Hence the safety systems. So the tracker is now fixed to the harness of my binoculars and the strobe is in my pocket. All is well that ends well. Regards Billy.

Greetings Well this morning i woke up to lots of snow, the safety systems are not working as they should be, so today it is equitment maintanace day. I shot three does yesterday so there is something in the larder, lol. Roe deer never move for a week after snow they just stay in the trees, once they get hungry then they will come out and we will start again. regards Billy.

Saw an antlered buck by itself eating in a field. A little farther down the road 14 does all in one group.

Greetings Well its an update from over the pond I have reached eighty doe's, so really i am very happy with that considering we have had virtually no winter at all here up to now, anything from now on is a bonus. The deer i am culling are still full of fat, really they should by now be out all day hungry but no they are not. Its still a lot of deer if they stacked up in a pile and a lot of work this year to achieve it. just keep plodding on and see if we can hit ninety, lol Regards Billy
