I'm going to venture deeper into these Jefferson County hollers. (Especially since the landowner fixed his quad. We can't get anywhere near the bottom, but you can work wonders with about 2 miles of rope.) I know I have missed a lot of opportunities because I've simply avoided going down there.
I think I'll commit to only shooting a decent buck down in the pits of doom. Now that we have telecheck, if worse comes to worse I can pack it out western-style.
Anyone else thinking of changing their "strategery?"

I might switch up the bow I use in early season and change a few stand sites. Other than that I'm sticking with what's worked for me in the past.

I could do the same thing really...the ridge tops are always good for my primary target, meat. Outside the rut, however, the big guys tend to stick to the thicker stuff in the bottoms.

I learned last year that the park reduction hunts are not for me, I won't be applying for any of those. I always enjoy hunting at Big Oaks, I'll put in there again.
Around here, I try out a few new spots every year. I've been out scouting a bit while I've been turkey hunting, and have a few spots I'd like to try.
My kids are also getting bigger, I'm going to try to get them out in a blind with me a few times. Neither one are ready to be the shooter yet, but it's time they got a proper introduction to deer hunting. I'll probably save my doe tags for when they're with me, I don't plan on dragging them on any all-day November sits yet.

I changed from a compound to a crossbow for this coming season and will hunt bow season the most. Thinking of hunting Big Oaks with a friend that we used to hunt their during the Jefferson Proving Ground days.

We put in a couple of new permanent blinds, moved a few ladder stands around and are enlarging one food plot...
Other than that...it's business as usual.

I'll never forget having my son in the stand with me when I shot my best archery deer. And John spotted him!

Interesting. Looked it up on Youtube. Don't know if I could manage it. ( physically ) I had a friend who used to be a lineman...he put those climbing spikes to good use.

Yeah, I'm not sure how it will go either. I will definitely have to practice, but not dragging out heavy ladder stands and being able to setup in any tree sounds appealing.

Yes, completely. I got #$%^&*@ out of my lease and need to find a new place to hunt. I know, there's 1000's of acres of public land, knock on doors, pitch hay for a farmer, etc. Time is not on my side and I need to find something close to home.
I may just take the season off. We are planning to sell our house and build a new one.

I think this year I am gonna try to kill one... I am still trying to find land as a new Hoosier, but I've gotten 1 and think I can get access to another. I picked up a crossbow last year as I got busted trying to draw back in late season in Ohio. Too cold to not make a sound for me. So I hope that will help with movement.

Two things are in my playbook. I'm going to try out a home maid ozone generator and focus on hunting edges (mostly do that already). May try hunting a bit lower where wind swirles to give the ozone a real test.

Bought a kit from redfoxtrapper on eBay for about $75. His seemed to put out too much ozone at 1gm/hr. I have been playing with a 500mg/hr one that seems like the right amount of ozone. I'm slightly obsessive compulsive. With the money I've spent for batteries and generators, I could have bought an OZonics. I would recommend that unless you have time and like to tinker. I'll post pics later if anyone is interested.
