Who gets one? I am 43, and this year was only my second time around. I am a mechanic, and have to work outside and in tough conditions regularly. I did get pretty sick last year, but it was a sinus infection that got worse. My shot was late in the season too. This year, I got it early, and now seeing some co-workers and friends getting sick every day. So far so good for me.

I get mine every year for free at work. I missed one year and I got the flu that winter. Haven't missed a year since.

Its a requirement for work. What I can say is that since getting it, I havent gotten that nasty stomach bug that comes out of both ends.

I got my first this year, before I retired my co workers would get the shot and then they'd both be sick for a week or better so I never got one. Now they use a dead virus that doesn't cause that problem so I got my first.

Work offers them for free, but I’ve never had one. Keeping that streak alive this year.

I was told by a nurse friend of mine that it's basically worthless. I was told it's the virus from the prior year, and by the time they make a vaccine of it, the flu has already mutated into something different.

The flu shot best ever hitting the right flu is 49%, most years is near 0%. The average is under 10%. If anything the flu shot is not good for you. The flu shot kills more people each year verses the flu. I guess we need a pill for the shot. I will need to re-dig up some articles and facts. There is a lot of bad information out there.

I was told by a nurse friend of mine that it's basically worthless. I was told it's the virus from the prior year, and by the time they make a vaccine of it, the flu has already mutated into something different. Thats not true. They pick 3 virus strains based on WHO recommendations and make a vaccine against it.....twice a year because of it being a guess and rapidly changing viruses. Its still a toss up if they will be right or wrong.

Youre link requires a login but here is the CDC explanation. IF last years strain is the one likely making people sick then they will use it but thats not the only factor. Other research is involved and there are 3 types of viruses the vaccination covers (H1N1, H2N2, and b strain if memory serves me). www.cdc.gov/flu/about/season/vaccine-selection.htm

In the Army we were required to get them and as a DA civilian we can get them for free. I would always get sick from the nasal spray and found out that it still had the live virus in it. Once I started refusing that and actually got the injection I have been good with it. don't know how effective it really is but I haven't have a bad flu in at least 5 years now.

Never gotten the vaccination and never will. I will also never let them test me for the flu again .... by the time you feel bad enough to go to the Dr and be tested, the time to recovery is about the same treated vs untreated.
In the two cases where I have been tested, I felt the same both times. Like a sinus infection type cold. One time test results came back positive and one time they came back negative.
Anyway .... no thank you.

I was anti doctor and flu shot until recently. I let sickness go several times that has turned into Bronchitis several times and even pneumonia. Enough of being a tough guy for me. Lol

No matter if I go to the doc or not, ANY cold/flu turns to bronchitis with me. Due to the allergies I had when I was a kid is what I was told.
