I will never understand the logic of not wearing one....proves you don't love your family IMO. Hope he recovers and wises up.

Just shows how stubborn and or lack of common sense some are. My older brother is one of those. He sees me wearing my lifeline and still to this day he does not. Not sure of his logic not wearing one. I think he's "to good for one" type logic; never fallen in 40 years why now??? Maybe this year it will change!!!

I started wearing one after I fell from a stand. I don't even notice it being on now.

I started wearing one after I fell from a stand. I don't even notice it being on now. Yep...I would notice it if I did NOT have it on.. I put it on at the truck and wear it in. No chance of forgetting and having to walk back out and get it or sit on the ground.

Proves they don't love their family? Come on, you're smarter than to say something like that.
I wear one at all time....won't go up a tree without one. I know hunters who don't though and I won't question their love of family. I'll question their common sense though.

To me personally it illustrates someone doesn't care enough to ensure they make it home. Just as poaching has ZERO excuses so does not wearing a harness to me.

Well, i guess everyone is entitled to their opinion. Be an interesting conversation to tell a man to his face though that he does not love his family. That may not work out real well with some folks.

If they take offense to me saying (obviously respectfully) I question one's love for their families by choosing to not care if they fall to their death than that is their choice. I'd never attack someone with it...I'd never go out of my way to tell someone my thoughts but all the same I do question whether one loves their family as I love mine by not wearing one. To this day, typically when discussing safety harnesses with folks that have kids I've always asked them, "What reason could you look your kid in the eye and say Daddy doesn't wear a safety harness because of...that would justify risking not making it home to them?" It changes their thought process sometimes...again I can only think of maybe a handful of these convos because I don't go looking for them.

The cam on my ratchet strap failed, caused my stand to come loose and fell to the ground 2 days ago with me in it. I was very thankful for my harness in that moment. On a side note.. wearing a harness and loving your family? Cmon Tyler, that’s a poor analogy and borderline inflammatory. But that’s just my 2 cents. Just trying to help.

If you were wearing a harness, and the stand took you down with it, what were you tethered to?

Just the way he worded it...stand fell while he was in it but his harness kept him safe while the stand fell to the ground.

I have a tripod stand, nowhere to tether onto except the stand itself. It makes me feel better about falling out, but if the whole thing comes down you're riding it to the ground.

I completely understand not all are going to agree with me 100% or even 1%. I however, feel that strongly about wearing a harness. I wish it was illegal and a citation worthy offense to hunt without one personally. To me wearing a harness isn't even about me...if I die it doesn't actually affect me, it will shatter those that love me and would completely wreck the wife (although not sure why LOL ). Again, I take no offense to the fact you and Swilk disagree, I respect the crap out of both of you and completely understand not agreeing with me. I remember seeing your post on what happened brother, SO thankful you are okay! (Oh...it is actually Tylan...hence why I go by Ty because my whole life everyone has assumed it's Tyler)

I "tested" the first lifeline I put up and decided right then, harness or not, I don't ever want to fall again. It will be an unpleasant, violent experience.
I won't go up a tree without one and once in the tree I act as though I don't have one on with the hopes the extra care might help to avoid falling.
I did fall when I was younger and didn't love my family....but love of family must have been pretty rare back then because I didn't know a single person who wore the original "belt" type device that was available.

I am personally scared to death of heights. I wear one and am very careful anytime I'm off the ground. So far in about 20 years I've yet to even have a close-call.

I'm in the camp that it's not if you fall, it's when. Go up a tree enough times and sooner or later something will happen.
And I'm the same...not a fan of heights at all.
