It's definitely been an odd year and I'm with lawrencecounty I think it's shaping up for next year. I had 3 bucks at my parents all over 150" on camera, we haven't laid eyes on a shooter much less them. The number of does we are seeing has dropped too.

Warm weater during early archery shows a plus killed and so far not the weather for gun season is negative killed. The reason why. Deer don't move much in high winds Hunters perfer nice warm weather to hunt. We've definitely had the high winds

This is the longest I have gone without a deer in many years. That includes 2012 EHD year.

Long turkey day weekend coming up ... weather is supposed to be pretty good, at least in the southern part of the state.
When it all shakes out it will be less but not significantly .... less than 10%.

You can't kill what not there..... weather, timing of season and new long range tools it's all a factor if folks want to believe it or not.
The next few seasons should really be telling.

Weather first, start date second. I know many who didnt even go on opening day. I went and only sat until 9:00 or so and didnt go in the afternoon at all.

I'm inclined to think weather has played a part. It will be interesting to see the final numbers in the next few months!

I’ve been posting the deer kill totals every morning for a while Here is how it all shakes out to me… Pre gun archery season total – 2017 – 31,283 (6 more days) 2016 – 26,344 2017 - +4,939 Gun season opening day - - 2016 – November 12; 2017 – November 182017 – 6,049 2016 – 25,231 2017 - Minus 19,182 2ND Day2017 – 11,152 2016 – 12,733 2017 – Minus 1,581 3rd Day2017 – 6838 2016 – 5,130 2017 – Plus 1,708 Your thoughts? My thoughts: Minus 19000 for opening day is significant. Obviously, the weather played a huge role in this. Take into account that it is the 21st of November, the daytime deer movement is going to slow down before long. 19000 is a huge number to make up,I don't see it happening. Naturally,THOUSANDS of deer are yet to be killed, but I think the overall harvest will be down, perhaps significantly. Time will tell.

This year the weather.... maybe!

Obviously gun opener weather had some effect but less deer and some hunters choosing to shot less deer may be more to blame? Hard to tell until final stats are in. Be interesting to see if we do any catching up over this long weekend?

Be interesting to see if we do any catching up over this long weekend? I'm blaming the horrid weather on opening weekend. Coming into the firearm season we were plus 4,939 on last year. Yes, I know we had six more days of archery but I doubt that close to 5,000 was killed in those 6 days. Comparing the firearm season days the only negatives against last year was Saturday and Sunday. Down 20,763. Neither day was condusive to hunters actually hunting or good deer hunting fort those that did go out. Even a lot of the ones that did go out quit early. Past all day sits became 2 or less hour sits. Monday through Wednesday the numbers were up over last year. We've gained 4,691 of that 20,763 back in three days. Add that to the 4,939 we were prior to the firearm season then we are down 11,133. I am comparing 2017 day by day telecheck numbers against the numbers posted in the 2016-2017 DNR deer report, so there can be some fluctuation in the day to day numbers... plus we have 48 hours to check deer in.

Close to 5,000 I dont know, but bowhunters had the best part of the rut in my opinion.

Actually comparing apples to apples we were down little over 1000 through Nov12th. Of course with a extra week of a archery we would be up. With that said even with weather I would have thought we would have made up on Sunday but we're down. Again. IDK it's all speculation at this point, but barring record days over reminder of firearms we look, at least at this point to be down quite abit. Time will tell.
