Is there an accurate affordable rangefinder that can read out to 1000 yards? I'd like to know the name of the commissioner who authored it. Featherduster, what's your defination of affordable? I have a Swarovski rangefinder that is supposed to read to 1500 yds but I've ranged a tree in Wyoming two evenings in a row from the same spot at 1901 yds. So far it's cost me right around $100/year that I've owned it, and every year drops the price more and more. Unfortunately they don't make it anymore, but used ones are available.

I live a measly 1/8 of a mile outside of city limits. Guess what I shoot all the time. There is a county cop lives a few houses down from me and he's never stopped by to see what was going on. My neighbors don't complain. I'm respectful when they are out in the yard or have company and don't shoot. I have a back stop set up and there is an old junkyard behind me with a big pile of junk behind my back stop. I'm safe about it so what's the problem !

Not sure there right to hunt guarantees the use of any certain tools! Exactly the RTH does not over ride local ordinance or DNR season restrictions. Marion County has a ban on discharging fire arms essentially removing gun hunting. I think the rule is ridiculous but not a second ammendment issue either. But it sounds like this is a dead issue. A found a map recently showing out laying areas of Marion County where you can discharge a firearm. I can't find it now. These rules are really hard to enforce unless someone complains or there is property damage. I think my county (Johnson) more or less has a 1000 foot rule but I don't know of it ever being enforced unless there is damages.

Howf fishy is this? Supposedly the council president is out of town. He reportedly got a ton of calls yesterday in protest, but he didnt even know anything about it. Word is he is opposed to anything like this. Somehow, they claim nobody knows who actually started this proposal???
This info taken from LaPorte county news and a local call in radio program today.

Here is the official news release indicating the purposed ban has been pulled from the agenda. wcoefm.com/localnews/4259-shooting-restriction-pulled-from-agenda.htmlSHOOTING RESTRICTION PULLED FROM AGENDA Wednesday, April 19, 2017 14:18 PM WRITTEN BY STAN MADDUX Category: Local News A proposal to restrict where guns can be fired in LaPorte County will not be considered this evening. The measure has been pulled from the agenda for this evening's county commissioners meeting. Jerery Siford is among those opposed to such restrictions. Even though the proposed ban won't be considered tonight...he's still trying to rally the opposition. He's asking people to meet before the meeting in the Herald Argus parking lot. Then go to the meeting together to speak during the public comment portion of the meeting....to send a clear message. Right now...the proposal would prevent firearms from being shot within 1,000 feet of a residence. County attorney Craig Biege says he drafted the ordinance just to start the conversation.....and get feedback from the public. Biege says the intent was never to passed the proposal as presently written at least without some change AND THIS: www.southbendtribune.com/news/publicsafety/proposed-gun-ordinance-on-hold-in-laporte-county/article_77d98488-e474-5399-afd0-458bc10a36b4.html

Guys and Gals, don't think this is a dead issue just yet. Here is an excerpt from WSBT:
"Democrat Commissioner Vidya Kora says the board had good intentions when proposing the ordinance. There were a few complaints about somebody discharging their firearms in in the unincorporated areas and subdivisions which caused some consternation, said Kora." "Kora says the Board of Commissioners will go back to the drawing board to find a better solution."
What is the better solution that he's talking about? 500 feet? 300 feet? Why should there be anything at all? Just think of the hunting restrictions that could happen if it went into effect.
I don't think for a minute that it is a dead issue, just a tabled issue that will resurface.

Please let me know when anything like this comes up again. I try to read all posts but that would be almost a full time job . PM me and I'll get the mass (5,800) email ball a rolling.

Move into town where you can't discharge a firearm anyway!
