Welp, deer season is over, for most of us anyway. So what's next? Coyotes? Turkeys? Trapping?
I'm waiting for a good cold snap and then will hopefully get out to call some coyotes.
I may have to forgo the turkeys this year due to the expected arrival of my first kid in March.
I think I'll be making another trip up to Quebec in June, though, to do some fishing and black bear hunting.

Hope to shoot a few coyotes still this winter and probably go out after some squirrels still. Other than that will start getting ready for spring fishing and turkey hunts.

Turkeys and fishing in the spring. Got enough gills in the fall to last all winter.

I may get out a few times for coyotes soon if it isn't too freezing out. I'd love to learn to trap them, but there's a lot more work to trapping in the winter than in the fall I would assume. Not to mention that I'd feel guilty only checking traps every 24 hours as required by law instead of every 12 hours, which I consider way more humane. I have no inclination to be walking a trap line at 4:30 AM every morning before work, which I would have to do if checking traps twice a day. I did that years ago with snares.
I also need to do a little post-season scouting for next year before the green-up, as well as a once-a-month shed hunt the next three months. I haven't owned a shotgun for the last few years, so I doubt that I'll be doing any turkey hunting, even though I have a flock of turkeys where I hunt, calls, decoys, and a lifetime license. I purchased a .45-70 rifle, which should arrive at my dealer's shop later this week, so I'll be focusing on the project of turning it into a smokeless muzzleloader in the near future. I won't be getting the classic Mustang out until April or May.

Some remodeling on the house. Momma now says she wants white woodwork after 30 years of stained!? Major chore..
Another Habitat for Humanity home build is underway. Between my home remodeling and Habitat I'll be busy until at least turkey season..
I've got the .243 so I might try to lure in a coyote or two....

I was supposed to go to Ontario this summer black bear hunting for my senior trip, but when I won my elk/bear hunt to Montana I passed up Canada for Montana (sigh). But I'll try and get some coyotes and a good tom in the spring for sure.

I've been looking into a Mule Deer hunt for 2018 and Montana is up there on the top of the list.

It was cool sight seeing though I had never been west of Chicago before that haha.

Hopefully some waterfowl and squirrels with the kids. Getting my boat ready for crappies and bluegill fishing and possibly an early trip down south. Big chore is gonna be hunt planning for Wyoming this fall and some habitat improvements on my deer properties. Might try to get out for turkeys a few times especially if the kids want to to go. Reality says I'll be working whatever OT they offer at work, like always.

Might go coyote for the 1st time very soon. Fishing and turkeys in the spring and building a large retaining wall (110ft x 6/7ft). That will eat up most of the late spring and summer. I will take pictures. Need to build a fence around my new garden etc. I'm planning on buying two more hang-ons for my yard. I picked out the two cedars yesterday and waiting to August for 1st food plot. It will be busy with the new garden and wall. Time should fly by.

Honestly, now starts the biggest time frame for my 2017 season...while I might sneak out for a squirrel or yote hunt I'm focused 100% on habitat work now.
Chainsaws will purr from now till the sap runs and even on after I'd suspect.
New Property To Do's for sure (BEFORE thaw):
-Cut sneak trails to 2 different stands through overgrown and thick fence rows. -Cut artery trails throughout 2 bedding areas being utilized. -Create specific beds while in doing the above bullet point. -Have a logger out to discuss options. -Cut all the vines over taking native timber. -Hinge over a couple poplar clusters used as a divider in the food sources. -Feather the edges of the food fields. -Clean up trash piles from previous owners. -IF I get a bobcat for a day, move dirt mounds into the bedding area to provide topography to a flat zone. -Frost seed some switch and clover in some spots. -Take stands down.
That is just the New Prop, the other couple properties have some similar lists as well...

She wants the kitchen cabinets white and all the trim in the house white. All of it is stained now. Still trying to decide if it wouldn't be easier to remove it all, paint it and reinstall? Won't be easy either way.
