Hunter Orange: if I was asked to vote on it I'd say (in perfect grammatical English) : I like the idea of wearing orange during firearms season, November 12-27th. I agree it is a good idea for visibility and safety. I would vote to allow private land owners and those hunting on private lands to wear hunter orange in the tree stand at their discretion. I believe we are intelligent human beings, at least most of the time, and I believe our generous state should allow its citizens to apply said intelligence and be less restrictive in regards to the rights of personal property owners. So I'd vote to allow the removal of hunter orange for a hunter on private property once in their hunting stand or blind. I feel strongly that while laws are in place to protect the people, in certain instances such as this there seems to be a governmental "over-reach" and I fail to understand an official coming to my property to give me a fine for such an offense as not wearing hunter orange in my stand. Can I get an Amen? π

Woody, some of my best spots are close to the road or close to other landowners that don't care for hunters. I guess one could just chose to not wear it and pay the $25 fine when caught. Your chance of getting shot while sitting in a tree is pretty slim (I'd say none, but im sure its probably happened) and one or 2 stolen stands would cover the fines for as many times are you are going to probably get cited. Is it Alabama that you don't have to wear orange if elevated 12+ feet? I'd be all for being except if you were X feet off the ground on private land. Not as much as I used to be before my son started climbing trees with me, but still for it. $25? Whered you get that number? As I recall, last I checked, ANY ticket by CO is going to cost you a minimum of $125

Just because it's private property doesn't mean you can be 100% sure you know who's hunting on it. Somebody could be blood trailing a deer across property lines and not know it. Or a poacher could be sitting 150 yards away with a rifle in his hand and an itchy trigger finger anytime he catches movement.

What I'm finding interesting is the same guys that don't want orange are same that preach every year fall restraint, fall restraint. I know what you are saying Woody about stands being stolen but look at it like this. Would you rather give up a stand or have the police call your family and have them tell them that you were shot. Private ground? How many threads do we have on here about trespassing this year so far? Is it really worth the risk? I'm going to go on a limb here and say the vast majority of stands are stolen my opportunity and not because someone seen a hunter sitting in a stand from the road and came back with the hope to steal it.

I agree.... Also once you start taking off and putting back on at some point someone forgets to put on and opens up a chance for a accident. Put it on and leave untill your back to vehicle.

Can I walk to and from and then sit, in a tree, during deer firearms season, with a 338 WINMAG and hunt coyotes while not wearing hunter orange?

I hope you get healed up soon Duff. No fun being in pain especially during the rut! I will continue to follow the current hunter's orange laws. I personally think wearing orange in an elevated totally enclosed blind is very not necessary. But, due to terrain features you could encounter up or down hill shots that would endanger the on stand hunter not wearing orange.

I don't necessarily wear hunter orange for my own personal safety. I wear it so other hunters know not to shoot in my direction or try to shoot deer right out from underneath me not knowing I'm there. I hope all others around me do too so that I don't have to live with guilt of accidentally shooting them not knowing they were there.
There is a property that borders the property I hunt that is absolutely off limits to hunters (the lady that owns it has given me permission to retrieve deer though). The lady that owns it lives 3 hours away and has probably never seen the property. Other guys that hunt around there know that she lives a long ways away. What do they do? They take their orange off and sneak right on to the property. I constantly glass the woods and fencerows looking for illegal hunters on that property. It scares me to shoot in that direction on most days.
