Hunted out West. Daytime temps in the 90's, night temps cold enough to have a frost in the morning. We put deer in game bags quartered hide off, proof of sex left on. Them laid on top of ice in a cooler. Drain open, covered cooler with a tarp, putting a few branches between the cooler and the tarp to keep it out of direct sun. We were out there for 5-6 days, the meat was fine. We were 60 miles off of the paved roads in the Greys River area of Wyoming. My cousin lives out there and said that the trick is to keep the meat out of the water.
We were antelope hunting same trip in almost triple digit temps. When the antelope was shot, it was field dressed, and put on its back in the bed of the PU truck. Body cavity was filled with ice, then tarped for the ride to his house. We butchered it that night, but doing that 3 years in a row the meat was VERY good.

Just had this issue today. Son shot a spike buck this morning and then by the time we were home, had the deer hung, and got cleaned up it was time for him to sing at a school event so we had to leave right away. I put two bags of ice in the cavity and we were gone for about 3 hours. Once back home I immediately went to work cutting the deer up. Skinned it all first since we are keeping the hide to be tanned due to it being a piebald and then got to work cutting it up. First time I've ever got a sunburn while cutting up a deer. Finally had everything packaged up and all dishes/grinder cleaned 11 hours after the initial kill. The hot weather makes it a lot more tough, but it can be done if you are prepared and think ahead a little bit.

The one change I would like to see doesn't concern the dates, it's the bag limits.
I would like to see Youth Season along the lines of the Military/Refuge Hunts with the limit if one deer of either sex that does not count toward their State bag limits. Basically the kids would get to harvest one bonus deer of either sex.

I'd like to see kids who are expected to walk the woods with weapons that can kill a man a 100 yards away trained up in the way they are expected to behave for a life time. In the ways, traditions, and expectations of a responsible adult.
If they can't handle "hunting" then they can't handle hunting and don't have any business out there.
It's hunting. It's not golf.
