jjas you know fellas who have used that exact load on deer/antelope sized game? I've heard mixed reviews but all second hand type stuff. A friend of mine who lives in Kentucky let his son try it out this past year. He said he killed a doe with it and it worked fine. My thoughts are, if you and your gun like it...why not?

greetings if recoil is an issue think of having it threaded and a sound moderator fitted at some point. one big thing they do, is reduce the recoil until its almost nil. Hence most rifles seem more accurate with them fitted. rgards Billy

My understanding is that you have to either set up a trust or send in your paperwork along with $200 to the federal government and it can take months to get it approved. Then you have the expense of the "can" on top of that. I believe that's the way it works, but I'm sure there are plenty of guys on this forum that have way more knowledge about this subject than I do.

greetings I reel back in disbelief and amazement that something is easier over the pond here than over there. When we apply for our certificates which run for five years, we just request a can, no othere paperwork, no other expence apart from the actual certificate, it is alway approved due to hearing loss issues, and the police being taken to court for hearing loss. Really they are no big deal over here, on a 308 there is still a bang but not that echoing roar around the hillsides and little reciol. i would miss mine if it was taken off now, and at the start i was dead against them because of unbalance, but one gets used to it. there we go. regards Billy

Yup, muzzlebrakes slotted designs can decrease felt recoil as well. Won't help with the bag, but can lighten the feeling on the shoulder without the tax stamp needed.

I bought a Savage 111 Trophy Hunter 270 last year when I thought the bill would pass. It was around 375 at Gander and came with a scope. Really great gun and very accurate. Scope was junk. I would look at the line of Savage bolt action Rifles and take a look online. Gander is very over priced. Good luck and safe shooting

That's correct Billy, moderators aren't as easy to get here as there. We have to wait 6-10 months to get one after the paperwork is filled out, add $200 to the price of each one due to the Tax.
I use a .243 for my deer hunting in the woods of Wisconsin. I have no qualms shooting a deer out to 300 yds with it, but I haven't shot one past about 150 yds. I'm using an 85g Barnes TSX bullet with a MV of around 3350 fps.

The online order info would have been handy to know a month ago when I was looking for a youth shotgun from my daughter. Reckon the employees know that little bit of knowledge or just didn't care?

I'd still rather support a local business gunstore than a big company. In the end you are talking minimal price difference.

Three bucks today two this morning one this evening. Cup of tea time then bed up at five am again. Regards Billy

I'd go handle a few in your price range before deciding. I've also found good deals at auctions and pawn shops.

Regards Billy I find it foolish as well; but our mess of a deer hunting rifle law just goes to show what happens when government types get involved

I got my buck Antelope with a .243 at 200 yards at a slow run kind of angling towards us, right in the chest and he did a somersault and DRT.
