John, we took a trip up to Curtis, Michigan just to go ice fishing. It was a blast. Saw lots of snow mobiles. Saw lots of wrecks on the way home Monday. It was nasty south of the bridge...

Wow, that looks like a whiteout!
I love it up there ...to visit. LOL
One snowmobile trip up there we came upon a bad wreck. Cops hadn't arrived yet, but someone was administering CPR to a young girl. She died at only 18 years of age. Seeing that weighed heavily on me all weekend; I just couldn't stop thinking about her family.
There's a guide operation in northern Wisconsin on Lake Superior that I'd really like to visit sometime.
Hey, have you ever seen the ice display that the college put on? They'll build amazing huge sculptures!

It was a whiteout, John. Took us 12 hours to get home instead of 7.5. I wanted to stop in Gaylord. But, the other guys wanted to push on through. Oh well, it was a wonderful trip!
I'll be fishing my pond in the morning. Time to do some management!

Hey this is an ice fishing thread .... enough of those ugly open water catfish ! Fished for about an hour last evening, caught eight gills, kept four nice ones, largest was just shy of 10". Had 7" of good, hard ice. Planning on an all dayer Saturday. Who said the catfish have to be caught in open water? A friend of mine, Nate Herman of Herman Brothers Pond Management in Peoria, Illinois. They also have a TV show, Lake Life on the DIY channel. In case anybody is wondering, this is on one of their private ponds/lakes that they have.

With it being a cold week will it be cold enough to get ice thick enough to ice fish? Only did it one other time with another guys equipment and I don't recall how how cold it was. Thanks for advice. Me and George Clooney went ice scouting on Thursday. The smaller bodies (5ac) had 4", but some places on a larger body was scary. I'd never seen him move so fast off the ice. We're going Saturday south of Indy, but no further than Bloomington, so that's as much as we know. You decide where you're going? Sounds like you may be in my neck of the woods and I'm curious as to how the ice is. May have to do a little drive through atterbury to see if guys are fishing there.

We went to Ogle lake in Brown County. It has been over 4 decades since I was at that lake. I'm thinking you weren't even a sparkle in your daddy's eye then. We probably came away with 20, so I'd say it was a little slow. Often, we're the only fishermen out when we go, but today there were a few. I have a gas powered auger, so we cut some holes. The ice was good. A tad thicker on the shady side, but no less than 4" anywhere we saw. Good black ice too. My buddy is at Bear Lake now, but I don't remember how to get there. I had other plans this evening, so didn't get to go back out. Dave, I never dreamed that I would like it as much as I do; I can sit on that bucket all day. I take a floor mat, so my boots don't touch the ice once I get into position. Yellowwood was scary in places, but 4" on a different side from the ramp. This was Thursday. Our days are shortly numbered this year for ice. Sunday would be a good day to go. I will not go next weekend.

Wow, I've never seen so many catfish. I have, just never through ice. I've never seen that many on top of the ice. That many bluegills would make a good mess.

Had a pretty awesome afternoon fishing yesterday. 6 species caught out of the same hole...perch, bluegill, redear, crappie, largemouth, & a 27-30" channel cat that hit my crappie minnow...fought him for 40 minutes with an ultralight rod & 2lb line...Got him to the hole and grabbed him by the lip....He wouldn't fit through a 6"hole & I had to cut my line...best fight I've ever had on a fish though. It was awesome even though I'm pretty sure I cooked the drag mechanism on my reel. Nice. White Crappie?? Up here in the northern part of the state???
It looks like the perch are getting pretty well developed egg masses.
