If it is as that article says I have no problem with it.

I vote bad. Why do we need another redundant law?
"Tomes argues that the law is redundant because a second DUI offense results in a felony. Federal law already prohibits felons from obtaining handguns."
I can see a good person screwing up once and possibly getting a DUI (but they really should know better and not get one in the first place) but twice? If they can't make the good choice of not driving while under the influence, then what's the possibility of them making a good choice with a readily available handgun?
BUT, the 2 strikes and you are a felon takes care of that scenario, so I think it's a useless law.

I vote yes, when I was 21 I could have a beer and drive as long as I was under the alcohol limit. That new law back then just created more misdemeanor offenders that can't buy a gun.

I've never really thought about it before, so not sure what I think. If one gets two DUIs, one isn't making good decisions, so maybe one who can't make good decisions shouldn't be carrying around a gun???

There are plenty of people with no duis that shouldn't be carrying guns and there are people with multiple felonies that are more responsible than most non felons... We all commit felonies some people just don't get caught

Hhmmm....might argue against the "we all commit felonies" thing. We all break the law but felonies are generally a little harder to do.
Which felony have you personally committed but not been caught/prosecuted of?
Also, there is currently in place a process to regain gun rights for certain individuals prosecuted of a felony. Was having a conversation with one such individual this past week.

Indiana classifies the first violation of operating a motor vehicle (including a motorboat) while intoxicated (OVWI or OWI) as a misdemeanor with penalties varying depending on the specific class of misdemeanor. A second or subsequent violation within five years of a prior conviction is classified as a Class D felony with enhanced penalties. The offense is raised to a Class C felony if the prior conviction(s) involved an accident that caused either death or serious bodily injury.

Not sure Which ones I've committed or when the statute of limitations runs out but I know I have committed numerous ones and maybe you could read through the thousands of pages and know them all but I don't plan to. New laws =new crimes Saying it is OK for stricter gun laws is what got us gun free zones... You see where that got us

I'm not thinking that I have committed any felonies. Maybe I don't know the law well enough. These Indiana cops are still trying to give me my first speeding ticket.
When I took my neighbor to the airport, he said, "You better let me drive, we're late."

I know I've committed numerous misdemeanors but can't think of any specific felonies I may have done. Maybe I'm just not thinking hard enough....

Maybe driving....are there felonies for speed? I may have tripled a posted limit a time or two in my youth.

I can see his point on someone who screws up one or twice but what about the alcoholic that has screwed up once or twice?

I view it as double jeopardy unless the gun was somehow involved in the incident, or the offender has a documented history of violent behavior.
