Got a Savage 308 Hog Hunter or the Mosin 7.62x54R. Would really like to take one with the Mosin. Me too, I would like to take a deer with my mil-surp Mosin Nagant 91/30 Russian PU sniper. I may take it south next year to KY to see how it does on deer, or I may use my SKS or one of my AKs

Hmmm...I would have to say my AR-15 in 300 Whisper or my Remington .308 sniper rig that I use now in Missouri.
But I would quickly be shopping for a new barrel...a 6.5x55 Swede for an Encore or a 6.5/30-30 for my Contender. I would likely end up with the latter since I have a 5 gallon bucket of 30-30 brass all shiny and ready to load.

I'm moving to Colorado I've been looking and comparing rounds, 30.06 to .270 to .300 .308's .243's
SO I decided to by two guns the 30.06 and a .243
this will cover just about every thing that a man can hunt. But as a BOW HUNTER this will be a all new hunting experience for me.
If Indiana were to change the hunting laws with these rifle's their will be an ammo shortage it happened in Colorado last season. so stick to the common cartridge sizes like 3006/270. etc.

CZ550 American in .243 Winchester. I've smoked a few yotes with this gun and one hog in Texas. I would certainly have to work up a load using a bullet more suited to deer sized game than a 65 grain VMax though.

I've got a Browning A-Bolt in Mountain Ti .243 flavor (NO, it's not for sale) that does extremely well on whitetails using the 85g Barnes TX bullet at slightly north of 3300 fps.

Either the old 30/30 Model 94 with open sights or the scoped Marlin 336 .35 Remington depending on where I was hunting.

Greetings,
Stumbled across this board while searching for the 2014 hunting season dates…
Easy question for me… I moved to Southern IN from Western PA about 10 years ago. I’d have to get my Tikka Whitetail Hunter chambered in 6.5 x 55 Swede w/ a Leopold 3x9 Varix-II back from my niece… She’s back in PA ans has been 3 for 3 with that rifle. It’s on loan to her until I return. Or, I could grab the first rifle I bought, a Ruger M77, 30-06, Leopold scope, 150 gr Sierra Spitzer... Talk about the good 'ole days...

This talk about 6.5's is giving me the urge to take my break my 260 back out and take it to KY this fall.

I would shoot anything I could aim accurately and not worry about the caliber. All of the previously mentioned guns would work well on deer. We're not talking about Grizzly Bear, Moose, or African big game animals here. I think people worry too much about caliber at times.

Browning A-Bolt 30-06 topped with a Leopold 3-10X50. I bought the gun and scope brand new with my tax check and some money I saved 15 years ago. I've shot 3 deer with it all in KY I would LOVE to use it here. I wouldn't need the range but the accuracy is unmatched by any of my slug set ups. it's been shot maybe 20 times in the last 10 years or so. I'd love to get it dialed in with a 150 gr. bullet. It's got a BOS system on the barrel, if any of you are familiar with it you may or may not like it, I like it, I can tune my gun to whatever load I make or buy rather than finding a load the gun likes I just make the gun work with the load. Pretty sweet if you ask me.

I'd prob still stick with my AR-10 in 358 Hoosier. though I'd like to chock up a kill with my Mark 12 SPR with 77gr, good out to 800yds! But have to say hunting in texas with my custom rem700 .308 in the AI stage 2 chasis was a lot of fun plinking dear at 700-1,000 yds! ;-)

270 for me.
Lots of places a 300+ yard would be nice to be hunting with.

I would have to go with my Bison Armory AR-15 chambered in 6.8 SPC II. I also have a couple of Remington 700's chambered in .243 Winchester that I'd like to try on deer.

Just a "side bar" note: Are they actually going to allow the use of H.P. rifles in Indiana now?? Just curious.

I would stick with my 358 Hoosier as well. Although I would be happy to talk my wife into letting me get something with a bit more power.
