Still thinking about coming down your way last week of March for crappie. It's kind of overwhelming though with such a large lake.

Still thinking about coming down your way last week of March for crappie. It's kind of overwhelming though with such a large lake. Kentucky Lake is 180 miles long, and covers 160,000 acres of water, Barkley Lake is 57,000 acres of water. So both lakes combined cover about 220,000 acres of water. There are plenty of good places to fish on both lakes. I got your message, the area of KY Lake you will be fishing is really nice. Plenty of Bass and Crappie in that area of the lake. In fact a 4 pound Crappie was caught just south of that area in the Big Sandy Bay a few years ago, it may be the lake record Crappie.

Alabama, Florida, Texas and a lot of other southern states have been producing a good amount of trophy Bass and Crappie all winter. Most lakes there are ice free all or most of the winter. A lot of Lakes in Tennnesse have been producing a lot of giant Largmeouth Bass this winter also. Lake Chickamauga in southeast TN has already produced several largemouth Bass over 9 pounds this winter. There have been Tournaments won on the lake this winter with 30 pound 5 fish limits of Bass.
Here on Kentucky Lake there are local tournaments being won right now with 25 pound 5 fish limits of Bass. There are some good sized Crappie over 2 pounds being caught right now on KY Lake also.

Chatuge Lake here in the mountains of western NC has beautiful scenery, clear water, and great bass fishing. Water temp is in the low 50's now and the bass are starting. Local bass tournaments this past weekend saw 28.7# 5 fish limit to win with a 7.7# big fish. Another tournament on the other side of the lake saw 32# + to win with a 5 fish limit. Bass are staging and the winning limits were caught on 6" swim baits around docks. Saturday before last I caught a spotted bass that was 22" long, 6" wide, and 3 1/4" thick. TOAD !!!!

There was a Tournament on south Kentucky Lake a few days ago near New Johnsonville, Tennessee. The winning team had a 35 pound 5 bass limit. The winning team caught a largemouth over 10 pounds, two over 9 pounds, and 2 over 3 pounds. That is amazing on any lake. Lake Chickamauga in southeast Tennessee has been producing some tremendous limits of bass in tournaments, a lot of 30 to 35 pound limits of Bass. A guide on the lake caught 5 Largemouth Bass over 9 pounds in 1 day a few weeks ago on the lake. There were several articles written about it. I guess it is the same guy who caught a record breaking 40 pound 5 fish limit of bass last year on the same lake.

Lots of day and weekend trips in IN on Eagle Creek, Cataract, Raccoon, Brookville, Monroe, Summit, and Prairie Creek.

Headed to the Manistee in Mesick, MI the last week of May for smallies. I made that trip every Spring with my Dad for a dozen years until I went in the Navy. That's been over 20 years ago now, and I can't wait to go back!

My friend from Indiana is headed down here this weekend to fish Friday and Saturday. He is wanting some of that prespawn action. He loves to catch those toad spotted bass. Our lake is a 7000 acres clear water lake with mountains all the way around it. I went Wednesday afternoon after work and caught 15 spots in 2 hours on a rattle trap. All of them were between 19 and 21" long. FAT. Pretty good for spots. The best 5 would of went 20#. A friend fished all day that day with an A-Rig and a swimming jig for largemouth. His best 5 went just a little over 39 pounds. Best was a 9.6 and smallest was in the 7's. Outstanding day. I like to eat those spots LOL
