Someone has to be getting some action by now! Had a fawn come right under my stand. It was acting goofy running around. Momma never showed. Bout an hour later had a tiny coyote come in. Never got a shot after I identified it

I was in my blind 1.5 hours before sunrise, and man it was dark! After about an hour, I heard a call that sounded more like an elk. Do deer make that kind of sound too? I heard raccoon fighting and squirrel barking, but didn't see a single deer.

For fun, I used to blow my elk bugle at odd hours of the day and night to bewilder the neighbors..

It was most like a bugle, but it sure did sound like it came from lungs. It was awesome! I heard it about 1 hour before sunrise behind me on top of the ridge. I don't know what it was, but I sure did like hearing it. For a guy that didn't see a deer all day, I sure had a blast! I love to hear all the different sounds. I got a little bored around 1:30 and shot a squirrel with my crossbow 33yds. Lost my arrow, $20 squirrel. I won't try this again. She's soaking in salt water. Then around 6pm a few dozen doves flew in on my. The were all around and on my blind; It was cool! I did think about shooting one with my crossbow, but nnnnnnnnnnnnno. Did you go? I just got back; I'll look.

Thank you Genesis!
I didn't care if I scared a deer away by shooting that squirrel, and it was worth the $20. Actually, it was my first squirrel period, and got her with a crossbow. I was worried that I might gut her, but nope.
I would actually love for one of my friends to blow an elk call while I was hunting. It would be a good trick on me. I know what I heard, but don't know what it was. :-) It wasn't a horse, but it did have a nice set of lungs.
Man, it was DARK this morning in my woods.
I'm really wound up!

I wasn't able to get out until about 7:00 pm last night, so I utilized my "backyard" stand.. It is about 80 yards behind my house. I did see 8 does/fawns, but none came within range.

I'm pretty sure I jumped every deer on the block walking through the hay field on my way to the stand. I either need to find a better entry plan or make it an evening only spot. I hate to do that, because it is pretty much my only spot to hunt this year.

The arrow went though him and pinned him in the ground. Arrow and squirrel were recovered an hour or two later. After I smoked the squirrel, my BIL tried three or four times before he was able to get a squirrel w/ his bow ... and lost a couple of arrows in the process. I had a bard owl fly over my blind last year. He circled and flew over the blind three or four times, maybe 10 feet off the ground. It was a pretty cool experience.

Tell the BIL that a man has to know his limitations. Doesn't he know that he's no 36fan??? The crossbow made it east to hit even at 33 yds. ...now watch me miss a deer at 25yds. That's really cool seeing owls. The owls were very active during spring turkey season. I've been so excited at everything that goes on around me that I forget about deer. I'm not sure that I'll try very hard for a deer for a few more weeks. I slept through the morning. LOL I figured that it would catch up with me fast. Oh, I made it in the blind before daylight, but shortly after my eyes got heavy and the hard dirt started looking like my sleep number mattress. I woke up at 10am, and went squirrel hunting.
I'd like to get some shots at those doves tonight. Today I heard something cry like a baby and something grunt like a hog. It's so much fun!
