Genesis, you commented about some of your issues you're dealing with neighbor wise...I've touched on it some on past posts, but we deal with the same thing....I cannot wait to share what steps were taking even further this month or March to "help" with the issues. Stay posted. Thanks guys for the kind words.

Good read but am really disappointed in the outcome of your poll....is there really that much pressure to worship antlers???

Excellent read...
Yes, no one would have known if you had arrowed that buck early except you. It would have been a ill gotten trophy. One that you would be reminded of every time you looked at it on the wall. You see the head/antlers is NOT the trophy at all...the hunt is. The head/antlers are just momentos of the real trophy....the hunt.

Just curious for response, lets say your running late one morning, and you speed getting to your spot so that you can be in the tree by legal time. Say, you exceeded the speed limit by 40 mph several times, and rolled through several stop signs. You cuss several drivers that got in your way and slowed your progress.
Hows that fit into "Ethics, morals and character" side of it?

Hows that fit into "Ethics, morals and character" side of it? I truly don't know what this is going towards but obviously all of those decisions (speeding/cussing/ not stopping) would be wrong, and could not be argued otherwise. This past season I overslept one day and knew the spot I was heading I wouldn't make it in as early as I would need to. I chose to wait for an afternoon hunt...I won't break a law just to be able to hunt.

Just curious, do you feel it is unethical to kill an animal in an effort to win a contest?

How do you tell if someone kills an animal to win a contest? You can't, but there is no doubt that hunting and killing is a competive thing for "most" people, else they wouldn't keep score and taxidermist would be starving to death daily.

The Annual Hunting Indiana "Deer Contest" is not really a contest persay. It is a friendly get together of displaying what we got. I don't know of anyone on here that does one thing different in their deer hunting in order to win the "contest". We kill what we kill and the chips fall where they may, but we have fun.
That is why there are no prizes and rules are simple - sign up and register whatever you kill. No entry fees and no required "proof" pictures of what a person killed. Some sites require some "proof" that it was killed that day - such as a newspaper in the picture or a print out of the site logo. They make it "unfun" and too competitive.
That is why we have "contest" in quotation marks..
It is a fun "contest" and as far as I am concerned very ethical. It is not for everyone and I understand that as ethics are very personal.

It really is. I'm adding ethics threads to my list of post deer season topics I don't need to see. If it's not illegal then I don't care how or why someone hunts.

One Timex's ridiculous comment was directed towards a post not what I originally posted. Two, I find it hilarious that some people get so "put off" when ethics or character is brought up. You state "if it's not illegal then I don't care how or why someone hunts"...exactly! My whole post revolved around one situation where it would have been illegal if I'd released an arrow...and how despite it being illegal to do so how many hunters have stated they would have shot. My article's purpose was to spawn thinking, not more bickering or ill feelings...sorry if any were caused or felt on your end. In season or out of season, discussing character and ethically hunting is always appropriate.
