Well have a questions for someone in the know... LOL.. And maybe some info someone might need to know. I was just informed that Indiana is doing away with the life time CC Permits at the end of the year. I had mine and let it expire a couple years ago because we were moving. I didn't want to buy another and then pay the $20 transfer fee. So I waited and it's just slipped my mind and just been put on the back burner. Well after being informed about the ending of the life time license I thought well I better get mine before I lose out. So I went to fill out the online paperwork and when it came to the question have you ever had a permit before I answered yes. I thought I had my old license in my wallet but can't find it. I can't get pass the first page without my old license number. Does anyone know how I can find that out. Do I need to just go to my local police station and have them look it up for me? And one thought I had is that I probably should just go to a local police station and sign up for it so that I don't miss out because I might do something wrong online and then them cancel it. Do I have to go to a station in my own County to do so though? Thanks for any help guys.. BB

ABSOLUTE NONSENSE - there is no pending legislation to do away with the lifetime licenses; this rumor has been going around continually since the law came in. I don't know how to find an old license number.

If it's still like the one I have, it will be printed on paper with all the durability and moisture resistance of newsprint.
I actually carried mine briefly in my wallet, and normal summer humidity almost made it unreadable due to the bleedthrough of the printing when folded.
I copied mine on some plain paper that was about he same shade of pink, and carry one of the copies now, with the original safely tucked away at home.
Not sure of the legality, but I figured it would be at least as useful as the unreadable scraps of original that would have been all I could produce after carrying it in my wallet a few summers.
Did the same with my lifetime fishing license. The tissue-paper original is 8 1/2" X 11", and definitely not going to be readable after being in your walllet when sitting on a creek bank, wet boat seat, or slipping and getting water inside your waders, or getting caught in a sudden shower.....you know, the things that fishermen actually do.
I think the state is missing a revenue source by not making these items available for say, another five bucks, in a form that could actually be used as directed. Maybe if they'd take a look at the drivers licenses, which only need to last four years, they could get a clue. Or maybe not. Even the best run state is still a government.

Okay found a few things with a phone call. They said they had not heard anything "official" about the lifetime going away. You have to have it done by a local law officer or department. To get your old number they will look it up for you. You can have the electronic scane done for $10 more and get your license back within a couple weeks. Right now it's taking about 12 weeks to get back. BB

That will speed it up.

Like Russ when I got mine I could not believe the paper it was printed on. I immediately had mine laminated. Same thing with my handicapped crossbow permit. I held on to the handicapped crossbow permit even though the state passed crossbows for everyone. Might come in handy IF this new early archery season passes. .

What's the law on transporting a handgun for hunting/target purposes with a permit opposed to not having a permit?

I immediately laminated my lifetime personal protection permit and my lifetime hunting/fishing license. If the state doesn't have common sense, that doesn't mean that I don't. Lamination was the first thing that I thought of. I really, really had to trim it down to a minimum size before laminating to get it to fit in my wallet.
If you do laminate it, make sure not to cut thru the lamination into the paper. Water can and will leak into the paper from the edges if it gets wet enough.

When you get the permit in mail in tells you to laminate it.
