I talk to a state police high up, and he said he has no doubt that the lifetime permit will end, and that a five year permit will become teh standard, but probably not for a couple more years. It's about the money. The state makes more money if you have to reapply every five years than they do when you get a lifetime.
I don't think a permit should be required. Since when do we need a permit to exercise a constitutional right?

Speculation of the lifetime handgun permit ending has been around since the first year it became available. A state policeman is probably not going to know anymore about it going away than my neighbor.
Has there ever been a bill introduced to remove it? I don't recall anyone attempting to have it repealed.

What's the law on transporting a handgun for hunting/target purposes with a permit opposed to not having a permit? The handgun has to be unloaded, stored in container (box, pistol case, etc...) separate from the ammo, out of the reach of the driver. Trunk preferably, but in the back of an SUV, or behind the seat in a truck.

Is that with the hunting/target permit and also without it?
Just curious. Couldn't find much on transportation with the permit.

it is not a requirement to CARRY the license, so durability is rather a moot point. same goes for legality of laminating. You dont have to carry it, so it doesnt matter what you do with it. my .02

trapperdave, good point. I never actually looked into that. I just figured it would be required to be in your possession anytime the gun was. So you're saying its perfectly legal to carry the handgun with the license at home in a drawer? If stopped, say for a traffic offense or fender-bender and you announce the presence of the weapon or it is noticed, no problem with the officer having to verify your status?
Also, after getting curious and checking the darned thing, I found that it was indeed sized to fit in the card section and that I had laminated it as well, and had forgotten those details. Hmm... wife said the memory was the second thing to go....neither of us could remember what was first.
BTW, my malware detection is picking up something on the first page of this thread and blocking it. OK when I open it on this page.

I had another member said he got it on the Merry Christmas thread and it referenced ArcheryTalk. I saw a thread there that there was a problem there. Seems that Internet Explorer users are not affected..

Hmmm, been several months since I last visited there. Did get a birthday greeting from there a week or so back, but deleted it without opening it. No other indications that it was my post involved, and no warning/block when I get back on with the second page, so I'm assuming that it was in someone else's post.

I've been discussing this with ProBoards and it seems that just an avatar from ArcheryTalk will do it. Hoosier Hunter's TC avatar is from there. I'll delete that for now until Archerytalk gets their problem straightened out..

They did away with the lifetime hunting license... Yep. And then they came out with a lifetime handgun permit. I think they probably researched the cost effectiveness of it first?
