I wanted to post some intial results on our youth hunt we had in Steuben County last weekend. I had to go out of town immediately after the hunt on Sunday, so I'm just getting caught up.
The hunt exceeded anyones expectations. We had 9 children hunt and all but one harvested a buck and several also killed does. Several were the kids first deer and two were 140 class bucks. The kids and guides both did an outstanding job and the kids showed many of us what courage is all about. We had kids with cancer, spina bifida, Lou Gherigs disease, Leukemia and cystic fibrosis. We also had some children who were not sick, but came to hunt with their friends.
I got to see the best and the worst of deer hunting this weekend. On Saturday afternoon I was preparing for the evening hunt and I was called out for a report of people hunting from a truck in a field. To make a long story short I caught a guy hunting from his truck in a CRP field. He had driven 7 of his buddies out in the field in the bed of his truck and dropped them off to set up a deer drive. He posted on a beer cooler in the bed of his truck. He picked a bad weekend to pull this specific violation as I been with kids who would not even let us take them to their stands on orvs because they wanted to walk. Dusty used a pair of camo crutches because he has bone cancer and Eric did the best he could, which meant falling several times because he is in the advanced stages of Lou Gherigs disease.
I will post more information and more pictures as I get more time. Enjoy the pictures, it was the most incredible deer hunting weekend I have ever experienced.
