I believe DNR should fit ALL STATEWIDE deer hunting seasons open to adults to the time frame October 1 to the first Sunday in January. Anything before or after that should be limited to special deer hunter recruitment hunts (youth) and special deer reduction hunts (urban zones, state parks, private land depredation areas, and other areas with too many deer with a focus on taking antlerless deer).
I do not believe we should “tie DNR’s hands” by adopting the recently proposed additional statewide seasons for specific weapon types (primitive archery and primitive muzzleloaders). Once established, (especially if ANTLERED deer can be taken) these new seasons would become regarded almost like entitlements, and participants would vigorously oppose any efforts to reduce or eliminate them, even if such changes would be for the benefit of overall deer herd management.

I believe that your post is spot on except calling the early archery season "primitive". There is absolutely nothing primitive about today's modern compound bow.

What about letting them have this season, call it special or what ever, but make it DOE only like they asked for with the first youth hunts???

Because the DNR is going to give it to them as written. They need to suck up for the plan 1 plan 2 deal. You'll see.

Honestly I do not see it happening because if pushed the DNR must admit that bows already have a bow only season! Period ..No wiggle room on that subject it said so in the rule books .So by doing this the DNR will effectivly be saying that the current Bow seson is not a bow only season..
Right !!??

Do you think it would have made it to round two if they couldn't allow it to happen?

Do you think it would have made it to round two if they couldn't allow it to happen? I has to go through the steps regardless of merit .That's the way it works. Proposal 1 went all the way to the next to the last step did it not?? Other suggested proposals have gone farther in the past to no avail as well. Time will tell.

READ page 6,7,AND 9 the wording ,seasons and weapons allowed in them is clearly defined !Archery season !!They already have a season no wiggle room there its defined and layed out so in fact it would not be a new season just an extension of the already existing one .If they exclude crossbows in that extension they are saying that they are not archery equipment in fact with the new crossbow definition and wording its called archery equipment by the states own definitions as of 2012. www.in.gov/dnr/fishwild/files/fw-deerhuntguide.pdfalso page 1 & 3 defines archery season requirements and archery weapons new rules for 2012

Ok so i am a disabled hunter and have a crossbow permit that allows me to hunt in archery season. Now if this Sept season is archery only then can I hunt with my crossbow or not. It seems to me that if only bows are allowed then the people who cannot for some reason use a bow and must use a crossbow are really getting the "shaft" along with the youth. Lets make the youth season the first two weeks of September and then I would feel better about this proposal.

Shoolmaster, I've checked with the DNR and IF this passes then the crossbow permit would allow you to hunt this "early season". We will still be able to hunt the UDZ in tha time period without a handicapped permit, as we do now. Not sure about how this effects the youth weekend. IMHO, the youth weekend should be youth only. If this passes then a mentor could take his bow right along with the youth. Not good...

Well that way the mentor could make sure the youth they are with couldn't kill "their" (the mentor's) deer........... ;D
