And in west KY trophy hunting is a big deal.
So many people will kill a ton of Does every year, but they won't kill a Buck unless it a large mature Buck.
So in my area there actually does seem to be more Bucks on many farms than does.

Harvest data days your all wet, very few people kill over 2 deer per year, and that in your area as in most places, the harvest is nearly 50/50 dies/bucks.
So, you disagree with Mother Nature. Imagine that, lol

I know people that shoot 5 or more does per year around here. No, I disagree with people, mother nature allows does to live longer, so that is why there are more Does. Ever notice how there are more females, than males in every species on earth ? Humans are the same way, lol It depends on what state you live in, In TN the Buck limit is 3 per season. Thousands of TN hunters kill two bucks per year, some kill 3 bucks per year. Many of these same people take a doe or two each season. Many southern states have a 2 even a 3 buck limit, and many hunters in those states kill 2 or 3 bucks each season, along with a doe or a few does. There are supposed to be more Does for the reasons I mentioned earlier. I know people that shoot 5 or more does per year around here. quote] Bill, you have no idea hopw wrong your assumptions are. Bucks and does, as intended by natures plan are born at a rate of 1.2 bucks to 1 doe. The reason is simple, bucks are more aggressive and hence have a slightly higher rate of death from accidents and other things not related to hunting. When you mix in hunting, the idea ratio would be 1 to 1, in reality, with bucks being the most desired species, the real ratios is about 1 to 3 in most areas, sometimes 1 to 2. when you consider a balance harvest, one intended to stabalize or keep the herd in balance, the harvest should be at least 50/50 or slightly higher in does than bucks. You state that you know guys that are killing 5 does per year, and you also state that there are no does in your area.....one of those staements has to be wrong. Average harst data shows that mostr hunters kill less than 2 deer each. A lot don't kill any.

We have does here, however not nearly as many as we used to because people shoot too many each year.
A lot of hunters in southern states shoot 2 or 3 Bucks per year.
Here is Zone 1 in Kentucky we have NO BAG LIMIT for Does. the other zones in KY do have limits though.

Indiana has also.

Divide into the total number of hunters, and then tell me where you have a better chance. For example, pick any spot and Kansas, even Dorthy's back yard and put it up against your leased farm in Callaway Co., who wins?

Kansas probably has more trophy Bucks than Illinois, most just die of old age. People forget, that the western half of Kansas is a vast wilderness area of the Great Plains, a lot of that land is unpressurd. There are probably tons of 200 inch Bucks in the western half of Kansas that no people ever even see. I will be hunting a new lease in Graves County, KY next year, it's much better.

From wiki: Here's your link.... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_sex_ratioAnd just a little fyi... in China the ratio is really screwed up because of the one child limit. Couples that have a girl often kill the girl because having a boy is considered much more important and socially desirable. Now the ratio is so screwed up there aren't enough girls to go around. Now back to the regularly scheduled programming...

The birth rate for deer is 1.2 bucks to every doe. Bucks have a higher death rate and equals it out over time.

No, not always. Bucks are more aggressive and die of causes other than hunting at a higher rate. Plus, hunting, more bucks are killed than does in most places.

From reading some of the posts here, I would say I have been pretty fortunate. As far as my area I does have increased and bucks have stayed about the same. The quality of the buck herd has has been improving steadily for the last several years. Maybe less pressure?

Back to the smaller deer thing, I have sheep, and we don't breed the labs born that year, but usually at least one ends up getting in the ram pen, the lamb born is often a single, slow grower, the mom stops growing, and both the mom and lamb end up being smaller compared to the others, Genetics is only half of it, nutrition is the other.

over 50% of you are seeing less deer, and the Deer/vehicle Collisions are down in Indiana, and in other states also.
This simply tells me, that there in fact are LESS Deer today, then there was 5 or 10 years ago.
