Help Please. I am looking for a very fast High Powered rifle barrel for my Encore. I am thinking 300Ultra Mag. I am wanting this for long range whitetails and also may use it for larger game. Do any of you have any reccomendations for me? THANKS

I am just getting into reloading. Price for factory ammo is not that big of a deal. I don't plan on shooting it much. Is this round or a 7mm rum even available in an Encore. Basically just whitetails I guess.

Both of those are a lot of gun for whitetails. I would look at the RUMs that you mentioned if long range elk were on the menu. Long range and fast for whitetails? You may want to look at a .257 Weatherby real hard because this is a fantastic round that fits the bill nicely. Sure there are others but it gives you a great starting point.

What is long range?
I did a quick look and I don't even see any RUM's in the Encore line up from some of the barrel mfg's. I could be wrong but I don't think some of the magnum chamberings can be done on the Encore platform. 300Win Mag is about the fastest 30cal I see. The 264 win mag is quite the impressive round.

Ya I looked after I typed this ? and don't think I can get a RUM in an Encore. I just want something smokin fast that I can get in an Encore for whitetails and mule deer. I want to be able to feel confident in 400-500yd shots and not have to hold way over. I have ballistic plex scopes but I still wanna be able to hold on the animal if possible.

I use a VX3 with the B&C reticle on my 270WSM. With a 200yds zero I can use one one of the crosshairs out to and including 500yds. I think you're going to find all your best choices are going to end up pushing the bullets that work for deer around 3300fps. so you should be able to obtain similar results with whatever you end up with.

RUM or WSM in 300 or 338 would be my choices. Recoil would be stout on an Encore frame. h.h.

If deer sized game is what you are after and you reload, then from everything I've been hearing, the 6.5x284 is one of the more popular current chamberings. I have no personal experience with it myself, but there's many over on Specialty Pistols with one or more barrels/guns in that round.

I really like the Weatherby line of cartridges. A .270 Weatherby mag would fill the bill nicely for a long range deer rifle, but it's gonna be a real kicker on an Encore, why not just get a new bolt action rifle.
I had a .270 Weatherby built using a Remington 700 action, Hart barrel, and an HS Precision stock. It wears a 4x12 Leupold and is a great shooter.

6.5x284 isn't quite as fast but is very accurate. You are giving up maybe 200fps or so to some of the others. The 300WSM would be a good one too. No doubt there would be some recoil. The RUM's are a no go in an Encore. I thought the WSM's were OK but it seems they are controversial; Bullberry won't do them. MGM was making them but I don't see them on their list now.

I just love my encore. I have confidence in it and I beleive it makes me a better hunter. Nothing against bolt guns, I have several I just love cocking that hammer. Now I think i am gonna go with a 7mm mag or 300 win mag.

no one chambers the "fat bodied magnums" in an Encore barrel due to safety(chamber walls too thin). If it were me I would go with a 300 mag and work with a 150 grain bullet. I would also get the heaviest profile barrel as that sucker is going to have some recoil. Fwiw---two of the best Encore barrel makers out there are Match Grade Machine and Bergara in my opinion.

Try Macth Grade Machine(MGM), if they don't chamber it, then it's not safe in the Encore frame.

Look at bullet bc. I think the 7mm bullets are a bit better than the .30's
I have no experience with pistols, but a good designed muzzlebrake will mitigate a LOT of recoil and reduce the muzzle jump. Just make sure you're wearing ear plugs, even when hunting.
Make a decision on whether you will reload for it or use factory stuff. (i.e. wildcat or not) Wildcatting will give you many more options than factory stuff.
I know it's not in a pistol platform, but wildcatting allows me to send a 200 grain 7mm bullet downrange right around 3250 fps. That bullet has a bc of .9.
