With the record deer harvest of 2009 behind us and many of you not believing the reported numbers I figured this would be the most accurate poll. If IDNR does visit this site maybe it will give them some extra insight on the deer #'s?? Just post whether you have seen more or fewer deer the past few years and the county you hunt. I will go first, I have seen fewer deer the past 3 years in Hamilton Co. especially does. Our harvest has remained the same but it seems we have to hunt alot harder to produce. The size of the bucks seems to have grown though compared to years past.

Where I am in Ky, I saw more Deer during the 2009 season, BUT they were deep in the woods. However there were 17 fewer Deer Harvested, in my county, over 2008's harvest; more Bucks than Doe harvested in 2009.

I have not seen a big increase in the size of the bucks actually over the twenty years I have been hunting the size of the bucks seems to have decreased. I have seen an overall increase in the number of deer both bucks and does. This may be the cause for smaller bucks due to over population.

Much lower in two of the thre counties I hunt and the third is markedly lower but not alarming yet . Honestly I may wll only take a doe in just one of the 3 counties I hunt this year. Honestly I think if the officals would get outside of Marion co. and the deer over bun city of Bloomington and look for themselves thay would begin to wonder a bit as we do about the direction we are headed. IMHO the herd despite the harvest numbers has been on a decline in my areas for over 3 years,
Howard ,Cass ,Pulaski

When the state park hunts started that place went downhill fast, before the hunts that place was awesome; deer everywhere.

I think EHD needs to be considered for some areas when discussing sightings. IIRC, no EHD last year but heavy doses of it 2-3 years ago. I know Putnam Co was hit in '06 and it took a couple of years for them to rebound. Sightings for me in west central counties seem to be about the same.

Deer sightings way down in Perry County. I only seen 7 deer during the gun season and Muzzy season put together in 2009. In 2008 I had a stretch during bow season where I went 11 times and did not see a deer. I even hunted many different stand during that stretch. I have averaged close to 400 hours on stand in each of the last 3 years so that is 1200 hours. I seen maybe 70 deer in those 1200 hours. So if you average that out it comes to 1 deer sighting per just over 17 hours on stand. Pretty bad don't you think. EHD did one heck of a number during 2007. I found numerous nice bucks around and many does. Others in the county had found between 30 and 60 dead deer. But the DNR keept saying it had no negative effect on the herd. I say different.

Much lower in two of the there counties I hunt and the third is markedly lower but not alarming yet . Honestly I may well only take a doe in just one of the 3 counties I hunt this year. When the state park hunts started that place went downhill fast, before the hunts that place was awesome; deer everywhere. Know it up there very well indeed 6 was a great area prior to the state park hunts . But the whole dang place has virtually crashed in past few years . I hunt a large farm in Pulaski co and it has gone down hill a little as well but nothing compared to the reserve .I hunted for 35 years at the reserve and I will not be returning it was always a few week ends thing just for fun in OCT . Bur it has been a waste of time in recent years lots of hunters more than the early years by far an way way less deer .
