I think that if you get caught poaching, your name should permantly appear online, or just on record, for everyone to see. I don't want to give permission to a hunter that has a record of poaching animals, moreless allowing him into my lease. This would be an excellent source of info for landowners. And perhaps give a poacher something else to think about before pulling these illegal acts.

I had a Deer poached in my front field just after Christmas on Dec. 29th. The sad part is I believe one of my neighbors did it, as his nane appears on the KY Telecheck as an "Archery" Kill when I know he doesn't Bow hunt.

Poaching is a pretty broad term....could be any number of things from orange violations to simple tresspass, etc. Any violation while hunting is an act of poaching. Plus, you said anyone caught for poaching, .......should maybe be anyone convicted of what he was caught for?

Timex, you are correct poaching is a broad term, but to me poaching an animal consists of taking an animal without a tag, hunting at night, etc..... Not having proper orange on, to me, is a violation of the laws, but a minor one compared to hunting at night with the aid of a spotlight. And yes i do think that these peoples names should be made available only after they have been convicted. Just as an example of how this could be a useful tool, Timex allowed peeps to bring their kiddos hunting on his property, which is awesome property btw, that being said he could have looked over the list of names coming and compared them to the lists of "poachers" names. If he knew that i was a "poacher" he wouldn't have wanted me on his property for several reasons.

I tell you what gets me about deer poaching or alot of poachers. They wait til gun season before doing it, seems this way anyway. I have a portable and base scanner,so I hear most of whats going on in the county. You might hear a call once a week during bow season, but when gun season starts, you can hear of a couple a night or more. Now that the seasons over I havent heard a call all week. I just think this is Funny ( you know what I mean)

IMO poaching is using any illegal method to harvest a deer. If you are trespassing when you kill a deer than you are a poacher. Orange violation may not quite fall into this category but let's face it we all know you are supposed to wear it and I feel if your not then more than likely your up to something. I think the main problem around here anyway is that the CO's are spread way too thin. I have never understood something, I live in a town with a population of about 3,500 and we have at least 6 or 7 police officers and several reserve officers but only have 2 CO's for the entire county. Also, it is next to impossible to get ahold of one when you need to, seems like they could make it easier somehow.

Plus you have to consider that most all of the archery hunters are also gun hunters, so it's the same people out there during both time periods.

I had a couple buddies written tix for not wearing orange while hunting. It was a crock and I'd have fought it. They were in a canoe, with their muzzleloaders uncapped. They pulled their hoods up while paddling to their hunting spot. Got out... exposed their orange, and capped their ML's. When they got back to the boat ramp... the CO wrote them up for hunting without orange. I am gonna post this in ask the CO and see what they say...

You fella's can be awful dramatic and find ways to add more work for an already overburdened, understaffed, and underpaid DNR.

Isn't in the regulations some where that Hunter Orange has to be visible? My copy is out in the truck, and I'm kind of curious.

Right. You are ALLOWED to hunt of of a canoe... But they were NOT. (We didn't know it was allowed actually, and learned that nuance of the law since then)
Their muzzleloaders were unloaded.
And in fact... the two guys in the canoe ended up capsizing that day in the river, and lost their rifles. They were lucky that we rescued them too as it was like 20F out with water temps in the mid 30's.
And the CO wrote them the no orange ticket on the ramp... while they were hypothermic. What an A$$.

Jabba One question keeps popping up in my mind ever since I read this-if these two guys were nonproficient enough to capsize their canoe just by themselves then what the heck were they going to do with a deer IF they had got one??? OR IF they both had got one? ?
