some people only hunt weekends and for meat and i will garante u that that make up prob 75% of the anterless harvest. muzzelloaders are not the orange army that sounds like an anti-hunting phrase muzzeloaders can be even harder than bow you get one shot unlees the deer is frozen for 2 min. they should extend it. maybey just a weekend. i love hutning early season. they could make a season even in august that would be cool some velvet wall hangers[/quote It will get easier the longer you hunt bud, seems hard now but wait until you kill more than one before you decide to start a rally for rule changes.

...and mosquitos, and heat, younger fawns, much greater chance for meat to go bad, etc. If you hit a deer in August and can't find it for 4 hours or more, you might as well stop looking for it! Deer hunting in August...no thanks!

I'm still on the fence about the October Weekend thing, unless it was the last weekend before firearms, but as far as extending it into January, I see no problem with that.

Leave bow season alone just bring in legal weapon the middle of November and keep it in until Jan 1 that way you have equal time to hunt with whatever you want. It's so silly now no wonder there is an "orange army" the beginning weekend of gun, all the holidays are coming and all the family things a person must attend there really isn't much time. Hunting should be relaxing and enjoyable and you shouldn't have to forgo family things or get a divorce to do it. This three weekend deal came about when there was very few deer and they wanted the deer herd to grow. Well it's grown, give us time to hunt and be more selective and still have family time.

Heck let's have a sword season or bowie knife season during bow before the flintlock weekend that way we have a season for every single weapon out there. That way everyone has their special little time to use the weapon they want.

Numbers don't lie KY 26 Days Ohio 12-15 days Illinois 10 or so days Indiana 32 days < quiz - which number is bigger? Golly Gee the divorce rates in these states must be astronomical. "It's not just because" Its a question of how many days does our deer herd need to be pounded by gun hunters. Each and every year in Indiana is almost a record harvest and the bonus tags alone should afford every hunter who is half way trying a shot or two.

Indiana does not have the most days of gun season in the Midwest. Here are all Midwestern states and the amount of days they can hunt with a gun. Only Illinois and Ohio have less days when you can hunt with a gun. North Dakota 44 South Dakota 92 Nebraska 58 Minnesota 39 Ohio 20 Kansas 61Indiana 34Missouri 42 Illinois 16 Wisconsin 40Michigan 55 Iowa 84

I wonder why only Illinois, Ohio and Kentucky have been mentioned thus far? Does Buffalo, County WI still put more P&Y deer in the book each year than the entire state of Indiana? Be nice or the kids will call you names. ;D

............... Want to really see how good a job Ohio is doing take 71 North out of Columbus. There is an auto killed deer every ten miles or less. Both sides of road. You can drive from T.H. to Richmond and there aren't one sixth of the dead deer killed by auto's. .............. I used to do some consulting work in Urichsville Ohio. I would drive over there almost on a weekly basis. One such drive I counted over 100 dead deer from on I70 from Columbus to I77 where I exited to go north to Urichsville. There is no doubt that Ohio has a LOT more deer than we do.. The more deer a state has the more BIG deer that they will have... irregardless of the number of gun hunting days. They kill a bunch of deer in their gun season. By the way, they expanded their gun hunting days a few years back. See..... www.dnr.state.oh.us/Home/News/NewsReleaseArchives/tabid/19075/EntryID/1451/Default.aspx

keep it the same, any adding of firearms days will lead to more ground being locked up by trophy hunters, that is the way to take the gun pressure off, think about it

Woody if the ML hunters are taking 80% antlerless how many deer are they killing. The numbers cant be that high. Example - In the 2008 season they took 15,154 total deer which was 12% of the total deer taken for the year. Antlered deer take was 3,107 Antlerless deer take was 12,047 The deer killed with a MZ during the general firearm season are not counted in this total It is strictly the Muzzleloader season from December 6th through 21st. Want more anterless deer killed? Extend the MZ season until the last of the year. IMO..

Woody, it would be nice if Indiana offered a way to see how many deer are checked in daily. I'm guessing most of those kills are from the first weekend and it probably picks up a little the last weekend.
I've set in the wood most of the last 5 days and have heard two shots. I've seen 9 bucks and proabably 30+ yearlings and does. Seems like the deer are still moving pretty good despite the so called getting pounded by gun hunters.
