You could get the kids in the woods when they, and a lot of us, are off for christmas and new years too.

I would not object to extending the season to the end of late archery, especially this year. Been a tough one to fill the freezer.

Yes extend it to the end of archery season and give us a weekend in late October.

Longer seasons wouldn't hurt a thing. It would allow hunting to be more family oriented in more ways than one. It would also give people with young families more flexibility and get rid of the stress today's seasons always brings. I doubt a tremendously larger amount of deer would be harvested. You are limited by tags and the freezer only holds so many...

As a matter of fact ive killed several (3) and my first was when i was 11 so yeah ik what you were trying to imply but i know how to hunt hard.... I'm not trying to imply that you do not hunt hard. I know very few hunters that do not hunt hard. I am just glad to hear that you shot all three of your turkeys with a bow. Because in my mind, shooting a turkey with a gun is pretty simple. I mean, you are throwing a pattern 30" wide at a 20lb birds head usually within 30 yards. At an animial that doesn't have a sense of smell enough to pick you up outside of 3 feet. Just like deer hunting, shooting a turkey with a gun is not hard, it is getting them within range that counts. Add on to that getting the deer that you want to kill within range (say a mature buck) and it makes it a little harder. What you're saying is ridiculous...turkey hunting even with a gun is harder then bowhunting for deer...theres a major difference between gun and bow deer hunting and gun and bow turkey hunting. Almost all people ik have not harvested a turkey with a bow.How bout compare how many people kill turkeys with a gun compared to people that kill deer with a gun......big difference. Just so everyone is happy how bout let people have a unlimited bag limit and use guns for all of the season ,heck how bout even allow night hunting during october this would assure ALL people can have a successful season

Renegade, extending ML until the end of second archery Has and Does absolutely nothing to early archery or the hard work (practice should not be considered work it should be fun), football practice is work, lifting to acquire added weight and muscle is work, Archery should be fun. Deer hunting with archery gear should be fun. Open your mind and listen to the good and decent reasons why extending ML until the end of Late Archery is not really a bad idea. Read what the zealots say and ask yourself where did they come up with hunt until fawns drop. Pay attention to those that keep yelling about killing lots of deer: How many of them are more the antler hunter than the meat hunter? Ask yourself where they come up with ideas such as High Power rifles. NO one said anything about them: no one wants them, there is not the open space in Indiana for them. Personally I don't think they should be legal for coyotes either. A 44 mag will kill a yote just fine. Drunks saying they wrecked because of a deer. Maybe their insurance agent will buy it but the police officer at the scene wont. If you like archery hunting only that is well and good. Me I like hunting with anything I can use. ML's late make more sense and lead to less injured animals from bad hits.
The total length of time that the state has allocated to wards deer hunting is fine as it is. Extending ML until the end of Late Archery is only going to add a few days.

Ok guys lets do some comparison, trust me I know it won't do any good; especially to the guy who criticize's a 14 yr old boy for killing his turkeys with a gun and not a bow. But that's a different story. For you guys who hunt these states feel free to correct my errors as I pulled these numbers from dnr sites. Kentucky- Early ML - Oct 17-18 Firearms (depending on zone) Nov 14-23 or 29th ML Dec 12-20
Ohio Early ML 19-24 in certain state forests Firearms nov 30-dec 6th extended- 19-20 ML Jan 9-12
Illinois Firearms Nov 20-22 and Dec 3-6 ML Dec 11-13 Like I said these may not be exact but I know they are close. You guys complaining about not enough oppurtunity just look at our neighbors. Indiana with 32 days is blowing our neighbors away.

i still think they should indiana has a large deer poplation and most likely will for the next 10 years at least hopefully we can be known as a stae in the middle with a fair amount of deer and nice bucks. they should also decrease the price of tags for NR

Ill- Anti firearms state. Ohio was Anti firearms until maybe two years ago. Want to really see how good a job Ohio is doing take 71 North out of Columbus. There is an auto killed deer every ten miles or less. Both sides of road. You can drive from T.H. to Richmond and there aren't one sixth of the dead deer killed by auto's. Don't know about KY and how they feel about firearms. But from talking with people that live in both Ill and Ohio they believe that their firearms is predicated by their states stand on firearms.

Ok guys I give up, you all are right. We should all get to carry firearms all season to heck with archery. Lets blast them with slugs for 3 months, heck archery is too hard and I don't have enough time besides I know more than the wildlife biologists who make the seasons. Indiana needs to lengthen the gun and ML season by a month to show those other states they are not anti gun. Indiana has double the oppurtunity with a firearm as some of our neighbors and yet it's not enough? Tags are too high? Those people in Illinois you speak of also produce huge harvest and huge bucks each and every year. Heck the stimulus check osama handed out was not near enough I want double.

Why do some think because a guy hunts and harvest deer with a gun they don't hunt as "hard" or scout as "good" or somehow they are less of a hunter than a guy who uses a bow?
Who gives a rats a$$ what weapon a guy chooses to use? what sex of deer a guys harvest? I tell you all this , I have hunted with bows , guns and muzzle loaders and there were even time I would have hunted deer with a pocket knife season if the DNr would have allowed it. I LIKE TO HUNT DEER no matter what the weapon HE!! i've considered buying a crossbow for late season , I like to see a early muzzle loader season and crossbow season
I've killed many deer over the years , some are even wall hangers and many are just plain ol' slick heads but doesn't matter to me I'd shoot a slick head today and enjoy every minute of it.
I'm not a head hunter but know mny guys that live for nothing but the heads , i don't give a sh!t , if that is what they want to do than so be it
Why does everyone think their way is the only way? or the right way or it makes them "greater than thou"
I'd like to shoot 3 bucks like years in the past but I also know (in my opinion) the 1 buck rule has made a better (as far as racks) qulity buck
moral of the story? We are all hunters , we all have our own desires , exspectations and we set our own goals, it doesn't make us any more right or wrong than the next guy , it just makes us different And that is what makes the world go round
so together we stand , devided we fall
remember that and we might have deer hunting for our children and their children

I enjoy my time in the woods in early archery before the "orange army" shows up, and want nothing to do with muzzleloaders during that time. And before someone thinks I'm some sort of diehard, bow-only sort of guy, I lose the bow in favor of a firearm the day fireams season opens. BUT...I prefer the solitude of trying to bag deer in early archery. If the state ever opens up an early muzzleloader season, I sure hope that it is for public ground only. ;D I have no problem with extending muzzleloader season to the end of late archery, but I do feel that 32 days of firearms season should be enough. If a hunter hasn't killed a deer in that time, perhaps they need to change locations.

some people only hunt weekends and for meat and i will garante u that that make up prob 75% of the anterless harvest. muzzelloaders are not the orange army that sounds like an anti-hunting phrase muzzeloaders can be even harder than bow you get one shot unlees the deer is frozen for 2 min. they should extend it. maybey just a weekend. i love hutning early season. they could make a season even in august that would be cool some velvet wall hangers
