With all the talk about high priced gasoline the question is -
Will the price of gasoline alter your summer driving plans?

yep, I was hoping to drive out to Montana this summer to get lost in the mountains for a few days. But I'm not going if gas is over $3 per gal. Just can't afford it... bummer.

I do not know for sure at this point. There are to many other things in my life that may effect my plans. Grand Daughters softball for instance. Illness in the youngest daughters in-laws family. Which once again puts us taking care of grand kids. But we are hoping to take at least one camping trip.

Yes it will. The only way I can make prices go down is to not drive as much so those little road trips to shop in other cities will not happen this summer. Ive got plenty of things on my to-do list that will keep me home. h.h.

Yes! My wife & I started cutting back in 2005 when the gas prices started getting squirrely. We traded down to a lower priced & more gas efficent vehicle for her, and I am still driving my 97 pickup everyday. We have also cut back on road trips & trips to town. I hunt & fish locally instead driving an hour+ to some of my hunting & fishing hotspots that are actually more productive.

It did last year and will again this year. The higher those greedy s drive the prices the less I drive, supply and demand goes both ways.

6/20 fly into Vegas. Then head to Sequoia NP , Yosemite NP, Then head north to Tahoe and up to Lassen NP. From there it is on to Redwood NP and after that turn south to the Avenue Of The Giants. Then down the coast and over to Napa and fly home after two days in San Fransisco.
Gas will be over 4 bucks a gal I would bet. Split between the in laws and me, gas will be a little over two dollars a gal. Thats how I will look at it.

Absolutely. My other 1/2 and I really enjoy little trips in no specified direction once in awhile, once referred to as a Sunday drive. Just getting out and seeing some of the country, spending a few hours just chatting and a simple meal in a little obscure town someplace. We used to do this 2-3 times a month, but over the last couple of years we have gotten to the place where we don't do it at all. If there is not a reason to go, we simply don't.
Enjoying the freedom to travel at will is something our generation is losing, and the next will never know. As always, some will always have money to burn, but the masses do not.

Heck, IIRC petrol was WELL over $4 US/gal (2CD per litre?) when I drove through the YT to get from Fairbanks AK to the Seward Docks... back in '95...
If we could just get ridof these stupid Liberal Induced Local "Reformulations" that are a MAJOR factor in refinery slowdowns and shortages, things would be much better.

My only two planned trips this summer are to Red Bird Mission in Eastern Kentucky and a two weeker to Michigan, Macinaw Island, Saute St. Marie Ontario, the UP, and Wisconsin Dells is a split cost on gas. If they were go it alone trips I'm not sure what we would do. By the time the yearly Florida trips come around (January/February) hopefully gas will be back down some. Of course deer season eats a lot of gas too... .

If you get to northern Michigan turn east for a side trip at Gaylord and go to Atlanta. At the post office out front is a glass case with a life size elk. My wife's grandfather shot him. He was around 80 at the time. The mount is not in the best of shape anymore because of the display case , sun and cold.
You should also check out Whitefish Point if you are this close. They have the Shipwreck Museum. This is wear the Edmund Fitzgerald went down.
I should be a travel agent.

My summer driving plans? Drive to Panera to work on dissertation. Drive to the library to pick up dissertation articles. Drive to class and practicum. Drive to Panera and the library to study for comps. And in July, drive to Barnes and Noble to pick up my copy of the new Harry Potter book... ...I know, I have no life. I don't plan on taking a vacation of any sort requiring driving unless I win the lottery or have income otherwise!!

No way..... Let's pretend that we had a trip planned to Los Angeles..... From Indy that's 2073 miles there, or 4,146 round trip. Gas has been over $2 forever, and people seemed somewhat comfy when it was $2.50/gal., so at that price your total fuel costs in a 20mpg vehicle would have been: $518 Now, fast forward to today and a gas price of $3.29/gal.: $682 or an additional fuel cost of $164. So, taking a very extreme driving trip to LA and back, you mean to tell me that you would cancel your trip over $164? C'mon...... If guys are bailing out on trips over $50 here or there, than you probably shouldn't have been spending the 'jack on the trip in the first place. By the way.......here's the link to the fuel cost calculator, it's a pretty cool tool to get your fuel costs. www.roadtripamerica.com/roadtripamerica_cfmfiles/calculator.cfm

Good point, Travis... the new perspective (rationalization) has given me hope! Maybe if I present it a certain way, the wife will let me go on my trip... we'll see.

Saving for my share of gas money to go elk hunting in Western Colorado this fall, been cutting back for about 3 or 4 years now. Retired this month, fixed income now, paying my own health insurance premiums now, glad I bought all the guns I think I will need, primers, brass, powder, bullets, etc., etc.,
