Thanks Steiny, I was going to put something like that down but backed off. This crap about the society falling apart...
Open your eyes there is more good then evil going on. If you choose to focus on the bad then that sucks for you.
Prayers are sent for all the families involved.

Its America itself that is falling apart, for what its worth. And that is a fact. But I am not going to hijack this thread going into detail. By all means feel free to start a new thread if you think differently.
Update: Oprah will be addressing this tonight. I cannot wait to see how she turns the blame away from the nutcase and towards the 'overly liberal gun laws' in Virginia . . . I suppose I am not being overly fair to her, but that is what I fully expect.

It looks like from all the post, that we are all dealing with something that is hard to understand and really not understandable. There is no answer to why. The people who do this are so far over the edge and just feel the need to vent in a horrible way. Personally I don't think now is the time for gun or anti-gun talk. Now is the time for prayer. I know most of us feel that many lives could have been saved if someone was packing heat, but these events are so isolated. It's really a 1 in 10 million odds that anyone would die in a school shooting.

Don't get me wrong folks, I am not trying to sugar coat anything, but statements like; our society is falling apart, isn't exactly true. In fact .... America has probably never been a safer, healthier place to live and raise a family. This is just the act of a crazed, nut, and that's all there is to it. Be thankful you don't reside in Iraq, Afghanistan, Africa or some of those other third world regions. They've got 50 crazed nuts for every one in the US, and they live worse than some animals. Prayers for the families are in order. Meanwhile, take care of your own families and friends and don't permit insane behavior in your own inner circle. Ditto...

It is truly disgusting (and this is an understatement) that these individuals are using this tragic event to further their own agenda, once again completely and totally missing the point that the person who opened fire would have found a way to kill more than 30 people even if there was no way he could have legal access to a gun or other weapon. Once again, blame it on the inanimate object, don't blame it on the perp who decided essentially to misuse a tool...

"We have now seen another horrible tragedy that will never be forgotten. It is long overdue for us to take some common-sense actions to prevent tragedies like this from continuing to occur."
I agree 100%
The most common sense thing I can think of is to punish, and I mean REALLY PUNISH the low life scums that commit crimes with firearms.......PERIOD!

Start by not disarming the victims. Teach people that the surest way to die in the presence of a lone, execution-style shooter is to stand there and wait for it. Meh. How many would have died if just 5 of the 30 had decided to rush the guy? Maybe 3 of the 5? We don't need to punish people who shoot innocent people, we need innocent people to shoot back.

We need more of the extremests, from both sides, to merge toward the middle.
We dont need more gun laws .... and we dont all need to be frightened paranoid delusionists that feel the need to be "armed and ready" at all time.
We need to take some notes on third world punishment. Make the punishment for certain crimes so harsh that people will think twice before commiting them.
Of course when you have a person who is willing to die for what they are doing, be it crashing a plane into a building or walking into a classroom full of people and opening fire, it is almost impossible to stop them.
Crazy people are just that ...... crazy.

Theres nothing wrong with prayer, and again my heart goes out to them and the familys, but folks, those young men and women are gone. IMO now IS the time to talk about gun issues and to get pro active and right quick. The gun grabbing liberals will not a waste a moment on this. I'm not a frightened paranoid delusionist and I'm armed every waking hour at the ready. I do feel the need, look at what happened yesterday. It can happen anytime and anywhere. It is best to have it and not need it than not have it and....

Whenever you have about six out of ten kids taking Prozac or other forms of medications; have all these violent computer games, and "Rap" Music, that seem to be so popular with the younger generation; I'd say Society, as we know it, is falling apart.

David, I think they said the same thing about dancing, rock and roll music, and all those other evil things of the 50's and 60's. Society changes.
The worst part of society now is there are so many people that are willing to make excuses for everyone else. Welfare is a bigger issue than violent computer games. The kid that is screwed up enough to be affected by a video game, was going to be screwed up without it.

From what I heard on the news is that the serial numbers were filed off,no surprise there.
What in the world could the motive have been to kill over 30 people?

But we didn't have the shooting like today and kids weren't on Prozac or being misslead by a bunch of "Rappers". I don't know about you, but when I was in High School Guys, that hunted, brought their shotguns & .22's to School, left them in their cars inorder to go hunting after school. No one got shot and not one of these Guys brought their guns into the school and shoot a bunch of people.

I can not help but think,What might have happened if one of the level headed professors with a CCW permit and a handgun, had been in the class room when this crazy entered to shoot people.
