Seriously, how many people are going to text me this press release. Have I become "that .410 guy"? Anyway, wife and I are in a heated argument anyway about something else. Reckon piling on a purchase of a new .410 ain't going to make the argument any worse. So did you get a new .410?

Passed House 58-40. Sent back to Senate because of changes. Passed Senate 31-19.
Last ditch effort to get Governor to veto.
Who knows?
I hate politics.

Morning update from DU: Good morning All, Despite our calls to the House to pass the amended bill as is, the House of Representatives decided to amend the legislation again last night during session to exempt all Class 1 wetlands (estimated to be around 400,000 acres statewide) and many of the Class 2 wetlands. To say that this is disappointing is an understatement. The House will take a final vote on the bill later today. We must drop the hammer again and flat-out oppose the legislation. I will be reaching out to all those in my network requesting that folks reconnect with their representatives to make it clear where we stand now that the bill has changed once again. I urge all of you to call AND email your representatives asking them to oppose SB 389 now that its been amended yet again to put hundreds of thousands of acres of wetlands at risk. Find your legislator here: iga.in.gov/legislative/find-legislators/The amendment to expand the scope of impact of this bill passed with just 54 votes last night, which means that if we can peel-off just five votes this morning, the bill at-large will not have enough votes to pass. Important targets to focus on: Aylesworth Borders Clere Eberhart Ellington Karickhoff Ledbetter McNamara Olthoff Rowray Snow Vermilion We need to apply pressure throughout the day today. The House will go into session at 11 AM, however, it is unclear when they will vote on 389. Thank you all for the continued energy you pour into this. We are undoubtedly up against stiff headwinds given the political power the builders have amassed over the years, but it’s important to leave everything on the field right now.

From Ducks Unlimited Regional Rep:
Just wanted to let everyone know that as expected Amendment 24 passed the House Environmental Affairs committee yesterday unanimously 12-0. The amendment is much more reasonable than any yet we have seen and strikes a better balance of providing some regulatory relief while still maintaining natural resource protections. The new amended bill will now go to second reading on the House floor on Monday and we fully expect that there will be problematic floor amendments offered in attempt to bring it back closer to the original bill, which would have fully repealed the isolated wetland protection program. It is therefore critical that members of the House hear from constituents to OPPOSE any additional amendments to SB 389 that would further expand wetland impacts. DU and many others are issuing action alerts to that effect.
The window of opportunity to influence this situation is closing quickly and so it is my professional opinion that it’s in our collective best interest to rally around this newly amended bill. I think that letting the perfect become the enemy of the good at this juncture will hurt us and increase the likelihood that we end up with something far more damaging in law.

It appears that a compromise has been reached. The wetlands program will stay in place but reductions in some protections are being proposed (as they should be). It's not over yet but some level of compromise is acceptable. Ducks Unlimited and other conservation groups still will be watching. ALL the tree huggers will be unhappy with compromise. It passed the House committee 12-0.

Looks like another committee meeting has been scheduled for SB389.If it passes the House and Governor signs it , it would remove all state protections from wetlands. This a bad bill for a lot of people. Contact your state representative and ask them to vote against this bill.

The Natural Resources Commission today approved a change in the turkey hunting equipment. This change allows the use of 28 and .410 gauge shotguns. Through the proposed amendment, turkey hunters using shot sizes smaller than 7 ½ would be required to comply with newly added specifications for shot composition and density but the rule amendment would not prohibit any loads that were previously legal for wild turkey hunting in Indiana.
This rule will be announced in press release tomorrow but it will be effective under an emergency order before going to the AG and Governor. So it is valid for this season.

The Natural Resources Commission today changed the rule on equipment for muzzleloaders used during deer season. The change allows the use of the rear powder loading and front bullet loading of muzzleloader during the FIREARMS season. This is the final rule and must be reviewed by the Attorney General and the Governor before the change is finalized. Will likely be ready this summer/fall.
