duffwhitetaildave24When you go to an IU ladies’ game, do you just get your tickets at the door? Thinking about taking my girls to a game or two.

I think just going to a draw for nonresidents would increase the interest from traveling hunters. A very low quota would need to be set to make any on-the-ground difference. Then, the powers that be will see all the demand for these licenses, the big $$ they are willing to pay, and the ability to double, triple, whatever the NR quota to raise more funds. We could end up with more NRs, not fewer.

steiny I understand what you’re saying about out of pocket expenses , but unless a guy does something really dumb he will make money by owning land, not cost him. When my dad was young, most recreational type land was going for under $500/acre. Now, same area, it’s $5k or more. I’m in my 30’s, and just since I’ve been paying attention I’ve seen land prices more than double in my area.

I’m sure that they’ve had heavier vehicles than a Ranger on that thing. Strange

Looks like the kid in the microwave has plans for most of that product.

A little bit of last-minute “season prep” - just fired off a few rounds from my selected rifle for Saturday. All good!

I saw a big buck again today. I think it’s the same one that’s been at my place since at least Tuesday. Hopefully he stays around until Saturday. I think he’s been with a doe all this time, so that’s a big ask.
I can’t hunt tonight, I’ll sit in the rain tomorrow afternoon, then the rifle comes out Saturday.

The deer I was hearing never did come out. They were still walking around in there and occasionally grunting as I was walking out in the dark.

Well, this is exciting. I’m pretty sure I have a buck locked down with a doe about 20 yards from my stand.
I got in here at 3 and let out an estrous bleat soon after. There were immediately footsteps, close by, on the other side of a 12’ tall wall of multi flora rose. A few minutes of silence, I bleat again, and am answered by a soft grunt. After a few more minutes I grunted, which led to more footsteps and what sounded like taking of antlers in the brush. He won’t step out though, any deer from that way will have to actually enter the food plot for me to see them.
I’m pretty sure they’re still there, hopefully the doe leads him into the food plot before dark.

Got in here a little after 3. Heard some grunting and chasing then quiet. A little later, a doe came into the food plot and started feeding. A nice buck came in and she ran off, him on her tail. He never did completely leave the brush about 40 yards away, and I’m not sure if he is a shooter or not, but looked pretty good from what I could see.

Is rut butt slang for estrous? Watch your back out there.

Oh, and DNR had a table set up, taking CWD samples. Sure hope they don’t find that.

No additional deer seen tonight. Funny though, the little buck chased the doe right past me on the way out. I stood still, and they went by at about 10’.

Bunch of vultures down in the bottom. They keep making a commotion. I’m guessing there’s a gut pile down there, but they all keep flying away all at once then return a few seconds later.
Also heard what sounded like a bobcat fight earlier.
Just need deer now..

Going back to how I began deer hunting.. Carhartte bibs, single shot 12 gauge, sitting on the ground with my back against a tree.
I relocated while ago to a spot near where I killed my buck Thursday. There were a lot of other hunters around me this morning, but I drove a lap and they’re all gone.
It’s nice and quiet out here, gonna see if I can call something in tonight.

I’m here at this special gun hunt. I’ll be here for close to an all-day sit, unless I get one early. The hunt closes a little before dark.
I’ve got all sorts of gear and accessories dangling off the rail of my climber. Extra layers of clothes, bino harness, assortment of deer calls, thermos of coffee, in addition to my big backpack.

Whats everyones trick for getting them out of the steep places. To steep for deer cart or 4 wheeler, and doing it yourself I’m in one of those spots today. I have my internal frame pack and game bags to quarter and pack out if necessary.
