Any news? Scuttlebutt?
I'm guessing that it would be a new season so we'd all have to go out and buy another tag every year. Anybody got any intel?

AFAIK, there would be no "new season" as the regulation is simply a change to the delivery systems allowed for the cartridges allready allowed during centerfire season.
Just lengthing the metal tube is all they are doing.

AH! I can't believe they'd pass up the revenue opportunity provided by a special season, but I like that option better. I wonder what the likelyhood of it happening is?
NEF offers a gun that might be interesting for this. a 45 colt/410. That might give some really cool options for deer season, especially if someone would update .410 slugs. I think the gun would have to be drilled and tapped for a scope, but that wouldn't be a big deal.

I think the gun would have to be drilled and tapped for a scope, but that wouldn't be a big deal. As much as I like NEF guns, I would NOT consider the .45Colt/.410 to be a good option as it is a combination that has the worst characteristics of both types of firearm. #1: Because it CAN chamber a .410, that means it has a huge throat - way too long for the .45Colt. So you get a huge freebore (bullet "jump" and possible deformation before rifling) and bad fouling. #2: Because the bore is .452/.454 it is WAAY too large for .410 slugs to properly obturate to fit. Bad accuracy - even with one of my hand-cast "super slugs". #3: Because it is rifled, .410 shot patterns will be less than useless at anything beyond a dozen feet. Much better would be to get an NEF Sidekick with a good Pistol Caliber barrel, a good Shotgun barrel and a Muzzy Barrel and swap out as conditions applied.

Good points to consider, ironsights. "Jack of all trades" guns do tend to be the "masters of nothing. I wouldn't ever consider it for shooting shot. However, I think if 410 slugs were modernized with some kind of sabot, they'd probably work fine. Currently, I don't know of any other gun with a rifled barrel that shoots .410 ( though there may be) I think NEF offers a .44 Handi-rifle. These guns have gotten great reviews, and they are of course designed exclusively for one type of ammo.
As for muzzleloaders, I wish I had bought the NEF Huntsman when I was "muzzy" shopping. They don't advertise that thing enough, and it was around for a long time before other break actions came around.

The NEF/H&R Combos allow you to buy a gun with 2 or 3 barrels depending on what you want to do. www.hr1871.com/Firearms/Combos/versaPack.aspxThere are a few Winchester 9410 and Marlin 410 shotguns with removable chokes that give you one rifled IC choke. My 9410 is a full CB smoothie though. Biggest problem with a saboted .410 load (and why you will never see one) is overpressure in old thin-barreled .410s. The Handi-rifle, 9410 and Marlin 410s are all hugely strong though, as the 9410 is essentially the 1894 Big Bore and the Marlin is essentially a 336 - both capable of .444 and better pressures. As a matter of fact, I know of one gunsmith who rifled a 9410 barrel, bringing it from .413 nominal to .427 so the owner could fire .444 cartridges (.429 bullet). Biggest problem there was freebore, but that's what the guy wanted.

Henderson, Due to yesterdays weather the meeting of the NRC scheduled for yesterday was cancelled. They are supposed to reschedule the meeting for sometime in late March.
