Good question.
I haven't heard a thing on it yet.
I'll see if I can find out anything.

I would be interested in that too , I'll gladly donate my first doe to such a worthy program , I just can't afford to fund it . If they keep it live for long enough I'll try for the county limit for them . See what you can find out Woody , I'd love to limit out for such a worthy cause .

Didn't the IDNR have a program set up last year in certain counties too?
It was supposedly a sucess in that they had more deer than they could handle.
I made request to the IDNR to see if that is happening again.

You'd think that with the annual harvest numbers being as high as they are in Putnam and Parke counties that they would try to get something set up in this area. The closest place I know of to donate is in Tippecanoe County. I know there's a LOT of people in Putnam county that could use the meat!
I've been told that one of the check stations in Montgomery County already has a list of about 80-90 families that want venison. Not sure how many of them *need* the meat, but they are willing to take it. I'm sure that about every county has something like this on the local level....

Looks like If I want to donate this year I will have to pay for it myself. Closest to me is Owen and Greene as far as I can tell.

I attended a meeting to start up a branch of Farmers and Hunters feeding the hungry in Northeast Indiana. It looks like this will be available in Steuben, Dekalb, Lagrange and Noble this year. It hasn't been put togehter yet, but it will be publicized if it's rolling before deer season.

I guess I was mistaken about the sucess of that DNR program last year?? I would have swore that I heard that they got more deer in than they could handle..
Here is what I got back from the IDNR..
Woody, I have not heard anything about a DNR/DOC donation program this year. Only eight deer were donated last year under this program. If I find out that it will take place this year, I will let you know.

Only 8 deer? Wow! Wasn't there a case in the midwest last year of someone taking the donated venison and selling it in a restaurant? If so, maybe that hurt the numbers?

Could just be that no one knew about it... I certainly hadn't heard a thing until Woody said something about it earlier this year.

Please keep us Northern Hoosiers aware of this....right next door to LaGrange county and would be happy to donate a doe or two.
