Last update: January 23, 2007 - 6:46 AM WINTON, N.C. Jury selection began Monday in the trial of two animal rights activists charged with animal cruelty after they were discovered dumping dead animals in a trash bin.
Adria J. Hinkle, of Norfolk, Va., and Andrew B. Cook, of Virginia Beach, Va., are charged with 21 counts each of animal cruelty in addition to charges of littering and obtaining property by false pretenses. Both volunteered with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, or PETA.
Prosecutors in this northeastern North Carolina town interviewed potential jurors Monday, asking them if they were pet owners or hunters, and whether they had ever euthanized a pet. Jury selection was expected to continue today.
Hinkle and Cook were PETA volunteers in Norfolk when they offered to take animals from crowded animal shelters in Bertie, Hertford and Northampton counties. Their lawyer said the load of animals became too large, and the workers began euthanizing the dogs and cats and dumping their bodies in a trash bin at a grocery store.
The pair was arrested in June 2005, after police said they saw Hinkle and Cook dump several bags of dead animals into the bin. Police said they found more dead animals in the pair's van.

Here's hoping they get a fair and impartial jury composed of all hunters who have no life outside of the internet and a rabid hatred of PETA.

The true face of the disgusting organization shines through all the rhetoric. The starving elk in Colorado could use a few million dollars of hay, but Peta won't chip in because they are game animals. the cows that are staving..... "why should we help feed them when other people will be eating them in 6 months?" was the quote...... According to Peta views, the death penalty should be sought. Animals and people are all equal in this world. A death is a death and we can't use animals as food because it might hurt their feelings.

We could only hope...would be nice! According to Peta views, the death penalty should be sought. Animals and people are all equal in this world. A death is a death and we can't use animals as food because it might hurt their feelings. Agreed! The biggest bunch of hypocrites in the world ought to have their own "beliefs" used to bring them to justice...
