DEP charges Putnam man with hunting violations
The Department of Environmental Protection Environmental Conservation Police charged a 36-year old Putnam man with several offenses Monday after he engaged in a scuffle with police officers who were arresting him for illegal hunting activities.
Shannon Colburn of 195 Providence St., Putnam, was charged with Interfering with an Officer, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Hunting Under the Influence of Alcoholic Beverages, Criminal Trespass 3rd degree and Illegal Deer Hunting. The incident occurred shortly after 4 p.m. Monday when three EnCon police officers responded to a complaint of a person hunting without permission on private property near Pigeon Swamp Road, Windham.
Colburn, dressed in full camouflage gear including a mask, reportedly swung his shotgun toward an officer when approached. Another officer placed him in handcuffs after a brief struggle.
Colburn was released on a $10,000 bond and schedule to appear Dec. 28 in Danielson Superior Court.
