Need some help from someone experiened in shipping guns. I know I have to ship to FFL license holder. Do I have to do have a gun shop do the paper work for me or can I do it myself? Any and all advice greatly appreciated.

The FFL holder will have to do the paper work. Definately do not mark the box "gun" or anything like that. Good luck.

You can ship a gun to yourself without doing any transfer paperwork. Use the USPS, it's much simpler.

Ironically, i had been reading on gunbroker while hornharvester was posting and it looks like I can send through the USPS to a licenses FFL myself and not have to pay a 3rd party to do paperwork. Kind of like not using a 3rd part for a lease. ;D Just kidding.

For example, your going to Alaska on a hunting trip, and you don't want to chance your guns not making the trip, so you can mail them to a address in Alaska to yourself and pick them up when you arrive. The postmaster will tell you when it arrives. Then if you want, you can ship them back home again. That said, any gun going to a new owner needs to be transferred, so it has to be shipped to a FFL dealer. Obviously, this has nothing to do with a lease of any kind, more so to the fact that there are too many Democrats?

When I transferred to Alaska when in the Service I sent all of my guns to myself care of GENERAL DELIVERY, ANCHORAGE AK 99501-9999, insured, signature required. They had no problems with that whatsoever. People do it all the time.

Agreed to many Democrats!
I understand that I have to ship to a FFL but I also think I can ship it to a FFL on my own instead of having an FFL ship it for me to another FFL.
Is that right?

You may ship a firearm TO an FFL, a gunsmith, or to yourself. You do not need an FFL to do the shipping for you.
If you ship a firearm to yourself in another State, you cannot transfer it (except to/through an FFL) unless you become a resident of that State.

Yes, you can ship it yourself. It is a good thing to have a signed copy of the transfer agent's FFL with you when you ship, as it should smooth the road if there is a problem and also help to cover your backside. Also, if you are shipping to another resident of Indiana you do not need to ship to an FFL holder, only if you are shipping to someone in another state.
