Man what a crappy harvesting season it has been for some of the farmers in the area... I was heading to my hunting spot yesterday and I saw at least 10 combines in different fields FLYING to get the corn out before this rain hits... They were going faster than I had ever seen.. I just feel bad for them, if any farmers are members here I hope all turns out well for you this season..

My daughter's boyfriend/soon to be fiance has been helping his uncle get the fields out and they just finished up - they were way behind.

The farmer who leases my property has yet to pick the beans here.

Before you pity them too much, take a look at current grain prices. Heard one report of corn selling for $3.30 per bushel, and understand it's above $3.00 everywhere. Those are better prices than we have seen in years, and it looks like this ethanol thing we have going in Indiana will keep prices good for a while.
Land prices will be going up too, and you'll see more woods and fences cleared, wetlands drained, etc. soon. Buy now, while there is still some good stuff left.

I live on a farm in Scott co. and we have 250 acres of corn still in the feild. The place will be a mess by the time it gets harvested.

Another thing that is going to drive the price of land up, is the baby boomers buying up tracks of land to build their dream home.

We still have alot of corn up by the time the ground gets dry enough to get the combine out it rains again.
