Raw caribou meat anyone?
"Over the last few days, I have done some extraordinary things," Food writer Stefan Gates says on the BBC's website. "I have eaten raw ringed seal, raw caribou meat and raw Beluga whale skin. And to cap it all, I have dismembered a walrus. "
This is old-hat for Gates. Known as the "Gastronaut," he ate fat-tailed sheep testicles in Afghanistan and sampled canine cuisine with "Dr. Dogmeat" in South Korea for earlier episodes of this decidedly unorthodox food show. (Gates has a personal blog with lots of photos. YouTube has video clips from his recent trips.)
This time the BBC sent Gates to live in "a tiny, isolated and increasingly smelly survival hut deep inside the Arctic Circle" for a TV series called "Cooking in the Danger Zone." He is reporting on the lives of the Inuit people and the effects that climate changes have had on their communities in the northernmost parts of Canada.
Gates is pretty extreme, but what's the most unusual thing that you've eaten?

mountain oysters and raw meat of various kinds. Nothing too nasty

I'm not too adventurous when it comes to my taste buds.... Gator and / or crawdads are probably as crazy as it gets for me.

I'm personally of the opinion that man did not discover fire just to eat things raw or half raw.
Most people would consider crawdads kind of unusual but I'll take them over lobster any day.
Now for the most unusual thing I have ever heard of anyone that I know personally eating, that would have to be the time a good friend of mine grilled a chipmunk over an open fire.

I've eaten fried Muskrat legs. Wasn't too bad either.

When I was about 10 being in 4H was raising chickens for the county Fair contest. Two days befor the contest a Large Hawk eat my best chances to win. I swore if I shot that hawk would eat him. next day shot him on the back fence,picked him ,mom cooked him in a crock pot and I eat him . tasted real bad. But Sure made me feel better.

Dog meat in the Phillipines - Good eating actually once you get the collar down . Bull nuts in Singapore - Don't care to repeat that one . Balut in the Phillipines - A semi incubated fertile egg that has been boiled . Definitely won't do that again . Raw oysters on the half shell - Not a fave , I prefer cooked . Sushi - Love that stuff when I can afford it . Prarie rattler - No , it didn't taste like chicken . ;D

Most folks don't know how (or want to) eat Crow either, but the Breasts are good.

Alot of crawfish while living on the bayou, squid and seaweed, LOVE Rocky Mountain oysters, tripe...... and raw deer heart .....I would try most anything..... Solohunter

Sea Slugs while I was living in Korea. Kinda of sweet firm meat. Dip it in some Korean Hot Paste. Hmmmmm
