the officials in kosciusko county have finally deceided to try a urban hunt around our local hospital and neighborhood to rid an excess of deer, there planning on setting it up next year .i guess the dnr is going to give a training session to well trained archers then set up zones for the hunts.i translated well trained archers to mean friends of the mayor and local police force and big wigs.this area is very close to a very busy u.s highway ,so im guessing this is going to turn out to be an accident waiting to happen.

It's good that they are going the hunting route instead of sharp shooters.
If the goal is to really reduce the deer herd they had better go with EXPERIENCED bowhunters and forget chronyism....

thats what im afraid of woody,im guessing they will probably try to give lessons to the guys who have never bow hunted and then turn them loose,it will be interesting to see how it all plays out.we have alot of peta types around so im guessing the whole thing will get nixed before it ever starts.

I agree experienced over friends should be the rule. However, I agree that the hunt will have difficulty ever getting off the ground. I personally hunt an urban area in Marion County near a busy interstate, and heavily traveled city street, and it is always a concern about quality shots, so the deer don't leave the property (55 acres). The property is actually very near $500,000 homes and the possibility of chasing a deer into that addition is not going to happen.
Hunting urban areas pose certain obstacles, not unsurmountable, but something worth thinking about.
