I was talking to one of the undercover drug agents tonight after working the big pot bust story and he said that harvest time is happening now till the first freeze or two. Got me thinking that you gotta be careful while out there in the woods, you never know what you might walk into while scouting or hunting here in the early season. I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to pot, so I was shocked at the smell of if in the trailer that they used to haul it away.......it smells just like a skunk sprayed. VERY stinky and you'd swear one had sprayed nearby. I'm not sure if it smells like that while it's growing, or just after they chop it down, but if you hunt areas you aren't too familiar with you'd better keep your eyes and noses on the lookout. These folks lost 1,500 plants, that yield an average of $2000 per plant....that's a LOT of money so I'm sure they would do whatever necessary to protect their investment. I know that booby-traps are also common. Be safe out there.
PS. these plants had been growing in Putnam County and taken to Southern Marion county to dry and then be packaged.

That is interesting..
I think mostly Meth is the big thing down in these parts.
Sure would be nice to be able to carry while bowhunting..

That's exactly what I asked the agent Woody, if Meth has taken over Pot as the drug of choice for your entry-level drug supplier........he said no. Pot is still the "gateway" drug that always leads to most other drugs, so your meth-cookers generally started on weed, then "graduated" to meth. He said that Indiana grows some of the highest grade pot that hits the street, and there are just as many pot fields as ever. At least the meth cookers aren't typically setting up shop out in the middle of the woods.

I doubt it will ever be allowed but I think it is a legitimate concern.

I know that some do cook in the woods Camby, but generally speaking it's a garage type of operation. Sure, some do set up quick labs down desolate roads that lead to the middle of nowhere.....you are very correct.

Meth is slowing down a little. They got their supply of pseudophed cut down quite a bit. Surprisingly enough, big brother is checking the sheets you have to sign to buy it. I still don't feel comfortable with just a bow in some places I hunt.

Concealed means concealed ;D YUP, the only time anyone should know you have 'it' is if yo have to use 'it' Would you rather explain to DNR officer why you have said handgun and pay the fine, or be laying on the woods floor bleeding to death 'cause some meth-head decide to take a shot at you???

So where in this county did that pot come from? There's a lot of backroads that have no one around, bordered by farm fields on both sides- I suppose it could have come from anywhere...
My buddies father was spraying his cornfield a couple of summers ago and found some small mounds that had been planted with weed. Don't know if anyone was ever caught or not, but it was reported to the sherrifs office and they were going to watch it. This was in northern Tippecanoe....

I've been seeing helicopters regularly (more than normal) patrolling the skies around my house. For those that dont know there's nothing but corn, beans, and woods around me. I dont know for sure that's what they are doing but I get the feeling they're trying to "weed" it out ;D... OK that last part wasnt that funny but I had to put it.

Not sure where at in the county the weed came from Danf.... They wouldn't give those sorts of details. The agent said that the pot color is different than the green of the corn, so it stands out fairly easy.........it's just that there are a gizzilion acres to fly over. That's funny that the pot ads from Google showed up because of this post! Sorry Woody....
