My father was a hunter when he was a kid, and back then (from what i gather from him) he HAD to hunt for food with my grand pa for the family to have their meals during the week. He used to coon hunt almost every night, just to have the money needed to get their bills paid. ( i can't believe people paid for coon skin, but oh well). My father quit school to go to work at the age of 15, and he made enough money to buy their first ever refrigerator Anyhow, when i started hunting my father would never eat any of the meat that i killed. He told me his story and said he'd never eat venison again, unless he couldn't afford to eat "real meat". He didn't and couldn't understand why i hunted, when my family could afford "real meat". About ten years ago, some of us went in on a lease in lynnville and we needed one more person to join, and you guessed it, he went in on the lease with us. Although it was just for that one year of deer season, i had an absolute blast with my father deer hunting that year. He was in his late 50's and i was probably 20 at the time, but that season is one i will never forget for as long as i live, its atop of all my hunting experiences. So another words take your kids/grandkids hunting at least once, regardless of time or money, because you'll never realize the gratification you'll be giving the kids later in life. Lug

Great story Lug....my father never hunted growing up, so I'm trying to get him to spend some time with me afield now. He helped me drag my biggest buck out of the woods a few years ago, and was more excited than me! Great memories.....
Thanks for sharing!

My Dad never hunted anything ever ! He used to get so P.O.'d at me for wasting my time hunting when I could be helping him work on one of his old collector cars. LOL They understand a little more now. They still look at me funny when I tell them about going on a trip like I just got back from to Colorado and not killing anything but talking about how great the trip was. They do ask to see pictures now if I kill a nice buck.

Lug-you just expressed what the real essence of hunting is-time spent with people you love.
