Sorry for bragging just a little bit, but I heard from Dan Schmidt, the editor of Deer & Deer Hunting magazine. They are tentatively scheduling my very first published article for the June 2007 issue-Dan said it still could change as far as the timing, but they definitely want to publish it.
Now I need to figure out a way to follow up with another piece.

Congratulations! Can you tell us what the story is about? Who sells D&DH locally, so I know where to pick up a copy next year?

Brad Herndon is an outdoor writer/photographer and you may be able to get some ideas from him on how to sell your outdoor photo`s. I believe you can find him on the web, and he has a good book out called Mapping Trophy Bucks.

I need to find out who sells it at the newsstand though, I`ve already had several requests for the issue when the article comes out. I`m not sure if I`m supposed to say anything about the article before it`s in the magazine since I`ve signed the contract now, but I think it`s an article everyone will be interested in. ;D

Congratulations, I will be sure to look for it!
You can find Deer and Deer Hunting at Walmart, Gander Mtn., CVS, or almost any place that carries at least a handful of Outdoor magazines.

Just don't post any excerpts from it. . Ok-Well, I contacted Dan Schmidt and asked him if his magazine had done any articles on any of the new deer hunting softwares available today, and he replied back that no, Deer & Deer Hunting had not done any, and he would be glad to look at mine. I knew I hadn`t seen any articles anywhere giving an overview of the hunting softwares, so I got busy doing some research. I managed to contact and trade e-mails with the guys who developed the newest deer hunting softwares, then I simply did internet research on the older types, and even did trade just a few e-mails with their customer service groups to get a couple of questions answered. I put the piece together and walked away for an afternoon, (I wanted to let it sit for a couple of days, but was too anxious to wait that long), then came back and tried to look at it fresh. I made some modifications to it, and e-mailed it to Dan. I waited nearly 4 weeks before getting any word, I was dying. When I saw the e-mail from him, I gathered myself and said a quick little prayer before opening it. At worst I expected to hear that they wouldn`t be interested in my piece, (code for, you`re not a very good writer), at best, I was hoping to hear some suggestions for editing and an offer to review again in a few months. When I read that Dan said he thought it was well done and that, yes, D&DH would be interested in publishing it, I was floored. So now, how do I follow up with another article. This was simply a description of some softwares available-most outdoor writers put how-to information in a story format, like how to read and interpret sign, or the significance of rubs and how to add that info to the overall scouting for your hunting area. These things are more of an experts insight. Unfortunately, I`m not a hunting expert. I`ll keep working on an idea for another article though.

I don't recall ever seeing any article like that either.
Those type are good to read.
I don't see how any outdoor writer can write a "how to" article that hasn't been covered 967 times before. After awhile most of the "how to" articles start to run together.
I'm a long time subscriber as I think it is the best "deer" magazine out there.
You might query Dan Schmidt on what they need or are looking for in future articles like yours.
