I had the unfortunate assignment of rushing to Vermillion County yesterday to cover the accident which killed 2 police officers that were cycling across the state. Me and my reporter were the first TV station crew on the scene and it was awful! Bikes that were mangled beyond recognition, helmets and gloves scattered across the roadway.........2 dead bodies laying on the concrete with blood soaked blankets. I've never covered an accident where there was more irony/tragedy than this situation. The bikers were all State Police and officers from other areas around the state.....they were riding to raise funds for the families of other officers than were killed in the line of duty. The law enforcement on the scene were numb.... Sgt. Dave Bursten the ISP media contact that I deal with on a weekly basis was in tears as one of the men killed was his best friend and was his best man at Bursten's wedding. Very tragic, very sad.......prayers should go out to all involved.
