With the heat wave and all what are your kids drinking? Our 7 yo daughter does not get a good intake of daily fluids. She is not dehydrated or anything. My wife and I drink alot of water, and with this heat I drink some gatorade also. I drink a diet soda a day, my wife rarely drinks soda, hence our daughter is not a big soda drinker either. Any suggestions? She will drink some milk, oj and apple juice. thanks. Solo

How about trying Pink Lemonade?
That should be good and have some needed electrolytes in it.

The best thing for her is plenty of water , perhaps served with a to offset potassium loss from sweating .

She does not like Kool-Aid, she says it is too sweet. I do not know very many kids that do not like some Kool-Aid, the apple juice is not as sweet I guess. She is sipping on apple juice right now. We would like to see her drink more water..we have good filterd well water so we drink the heck out of it.......maybe she is just going through a phase. Thanks for the input.. Solohunter

My son is drinking LOTS of water and gatorade....Football practice (middle school) started last Tueday. The coaches told them to NOT drink any carbonated or drinks with caffine.....and to cut back on the sweets!
Today 8 boys got sick on the practice field....but they jumped back into the drills after puking!
They do water them about every 20 minutes during practice....it's full pads next week!

These teenagers around here drink anything that isn't nailed down. One of those twelve packs of gatorade lasts about two days.

Try getting some popsicle forms and freezing the apple juice into popsicles. It's a "treat" for our 3 year-old, but it's really nothing special.

Hope you all know that to much Gatorade is bad for you. The sodium in it can cause high blood pressure. Water, lemonade, fruit juices are best. This includes football players. They should not drink Gatorade until after practice and only water during. My grand daughters softball coach will not allow Gatorade in the dugout during games. They have one of those big orange coolers full of water or lemonade.

My son cannot drink Gatorade or sports drinks because of a kidney condition....... Neither of my kids have ever tasted soda of any kind. The strictly drink water (60%)and juice type drinks such as Capri Sun / Minute Maid juice boxes or lemonade.

Our city tap water is so dang warm that you need ice in it to make it drinkable. A half a lemon squeezed in a class of ice water with no sugar is a good drink in this weather.

I think I need to spend more time at the grocery store. But isn't there an unsweetened kool ade out there for those that are sugar conscious.
Chico- I worked with some football players from one of the state colleges several years ago. They were called summer help and were to supposed to help cover for people on vacations; yeah right. Oh back to the subject they said that they were given money to go to a bar and buy two bottles of beer after summer practices to help them rehydrate. According to them it did not matter if you were under 21 (then) or not.
No do not give your children beer because I said that football players in college got it.

Then whoever gave them the money for the two beers is an idiot. Alcohol dehydrates, not hydrates. A lot of our potroom employees at ALCOA "got down" from the heat after having too many beers the evening before. They came to work, not under the influence, but in a dehydrated condition. We all know what drinking beer will make us do - Yep.. whiz more.

And sweat. It just tasted so good after the half butt attempt at weed eating. I'm with Travis when I have kids. No soda. I never was allowed anything but juice and water either.
