I got a free hunting video at the fisharama in Alanta Georgia this year.(Ultimate whitetail 8)Knight and hale .I know it's old (2002) but it's the first time i've seen it. Well I saw a Indiana hunt, and I really tuned in to the kill of a nice buck.At the end of the of the show I saw the outfitter(russ bellar).and I remembered the trial and the talk on the fourm about him,but I had never read the fourm about him because I've got so much going on in my young life, that I read over the post and if they didnt catch my attention I moved on. so after the video I went to the computer and typed in russ bellar and this web site came up www.real-hunters.com/bellar-trial-video.cfmThis is some sick folks, look at the deer on drugs stagering around.and the great jimmy houston hunting a deer in a three acre fence(I 'll never watch him again) And Knight and Hale has just joined my no watch list. I know this is old and yall have probally talked about this a thousand times, but after watching this it makes my blood boil. We work so hard to make society except hunting and some dumb a$$ is running a operation like russ bellar that turns a sport into a killing for money operation.

Knight and Hale have or are in the process of selling their interest in the high fence operation that they owned.

Knight and Hale have or are in the process of selling their interest in the high fence operation that they owned. Rats usually desert a sinking ship long before the crew does , they do it because they're smart enough not to go down with the ship . I quit watching hunting videos and nearly all outdoor related tv shows years ago once they became one long commercial and did nothing more than prostitute themselves for the sake of an easy dollar . Jimmy Houston and Russ Bellar were only symptoms of the greater disease , the worst is yet to come . Greed will be the death knell for hunting in this country , the writing has been on the wall for years .

hey kevin1, your 100% right on, but i feel that the real hunters won"t let this happen. i also quit watching tv shows and videos. that being said, we all need to get together and join a hunting group that interested in education of our young folks, like the national wild turkey federation,(there should be many others too!) they have a program called jakes day and a women outdoors . this is the best way to pass the tradition of hunting down to our next generation. bottom line is we need to get involved and volunteer if we can, the support is what we need!!its also nice to have a great hunting site like this one to air our views . thanks agin woody for all the work you do to keep this site the best! your a true sportsman in my book! folks you get a chance take a youngster outdoors for a adventure that will last a life time.... turkey scout

Did Knight and Hale ever sell hunts on their fenced ground?
I thought that they fenced all that ground for their own personal playground and invited friends of course.
Yes.. antler worship and big dollars will kill deer hunting as we know it.
(In the following "WE" is generic and all encompassing.....)
But, WE need to accept some of the responsibility for this too.
Aren't WE the ones that place these big antlers up on a pedestal?
Aren't WE the ones that go gaa-gaa over "celebrity hunters"?
Aren't WE the ones that are buying/watching their latest big buck video?
Aren't WE the ones that are buying the products that they push in order to get a big one like they do?
Aren't WE the ones financing all of this to our demise?
Aren't WE the ones demanding that the DNRs grow trophy bucks for us to hunt?
Aren't WE the ones that want to make deer management decisions instead of the DNR biologists?
Is it all about WE getting a big buck and if someone else gets the buck WE were after WE don't like it?
What ever happened to DEER HUNTING for just plain old fun?
I've got about 10 years or so left in deer hunting and by that time it should be pretty well ruined. All you young guys and your kids will be putting up with the results of this obsession for bigger antlers.
I wish you all the best, but right now I am not too optomistic about the future of deer hunting.....

Woody - I've got the same 10 years left but I'm a bit more optimistic and I deal with this issue almost everyday.
Turkey Scout is right in that almost every conservation group is focusing on the recruitment and retention of young hunters and fishermen. Pheasants Forever has a great T.V. show and youth program called Ringnecks. Quail Unlimited is doing a great job with habitat and has a group called the Bobwhite Brigade for kids. And of course the Turkey guys (NWTF) has a really informative T.V. show and their Jakes program.
I've seen hunters start to turn the corner on the issue of high fence hunting and the effort to pass along the hunting tradition is growing everyday. Don't give up. Keep fighting for the sport you love. High fences are almost dead in Indiana but we have to stay vigilant and not let the politicians sell us down the river.
Jack
P.S. Bellar gets out soon and his operation is still going under his brother's name.

I'm not sure how many days I've got left, but I hope it's at least 10 years. I enjoy hunting. Heck, I don't mind watching most videos and some TV shows. I don't care for the ones that show a kill just to be killing, as I prefer to see the pros let the little guys walk on by. That shows me more than it would to watch him kill the little fellows with a cinch shot.
I don't mind walking through the expos and major shows and checking out the tons of gizmos and gadgets and wonder how many of those I've used a variant of in the past and could have been the one that took that thing to market. There's been a few. Plus, wondering WHY some of them are even being sold. Those are the ones that last less than a year and you never see them again.
Harold Knight and David Hale are not the bad guys here. Those that know them know they started out simple enough, just as most of us. They hit the prime time with turkey calls, just as the sport was balooning in major proportions. I don't fault them for making more money than they would have made cutting hair.
K & H never sold hunts on their preserve that I know of. It was for private use. Lots of folks with money do the same. Lots of folks would do the same if they had the money.

Can't understand what all the fuss is about hunting from the ground have been doing it the last 12 years and have had plenty of success. I now would rather hunt from ground as I can hunt places that the tree stand hunters won't. Just learn to sit STILL and be alert. I will hunt as long as I can totter out there.

I've taken many Deer, while hunting on the ground. Last Deer season in Ky. I took my two Deer while sitting midway up the side of a hill looking down into a Hollow.

Big racks are great, but not necessary for me to enjoy the hunt.

Hunt from the ground for years. I bow hunt and gun hunt from the ground. It makes it more challenging.
Have only killed one buck in my life. Hunt mainly Does, because I like their meat better than Bucks. Passed on a mid 130's Buck last winter in muzzleloader. Not to say, I won't kill a Buck this year or next, but generally shoot Does.
