This year I'll be passing on opening weekend of the gun deer season. This will be the first time in 40 years that I will not be out in the woods come opening day, except for the three years I was in the military. Since the season opens the 18th I'll be headed to PA that day for the bear season.

I think I'd rather have a bear skin rug than a deer skin rug . Good luck.

I'd take the bear hunting trip too. There is pleanty of time in Indiana to tag a good buck and several does. If you are a multi season hunter, like me, then the gun opener is not all that important.

Yes I'll get a couple days of deer hunting in when I get back. My son and I have a couple hundred acres of property to hunt in Washington county and I'm sure there will be a deer or two left for me to hunt. I usually get a couple weekends to bow hunt when the weather finally cools off. But if the waterfowl season is open I don't have time for deer.

For me, opening day of archery season means more than getting a deer. I've put off many many plans just to hunt opening morning. Traditions and refection of past seasons anticipation of the upcoming season what better place to do this in than a tree stand with a bow in your hand ?
Now Gun season is different, but just as magical for other reasons. The guns going off all around and for the last 3 years my son sitting beside me...wouldn't miss it either !
I figure I can kill a bear any time but opening day only comes once a year !
