Did anyone else see the story on Inside Edition on Thursday, March 30?
Story about a little girl who got her fingers caught in a paper shredder when the father left her alone in the room with the thing plugged in and turned on. They sued the manufacturer, who settled because they didn`t want all the publicity, but you`ve got to be kidding me. It`s so sad the little girl lost 3 fingers on her left hand to the middle knuckle because her parents are so stupid.
The story even stated that the father left her alone in the room where he had just plugged in the shredder to make dinner. If the kid had gotten hurt with a firearm they would’ve filed neglect charges, and rightfully so. How is this not negligence?
Only in American can a parent let their children get hurt due to their negligence and make a business pay.

It's stuff like this retarded law suit that drive product prices even higher. I would hope child protective services are investigating.

Get real, it's coffee. Da!!!!!

Why is the opening on the shreader wide enough for a child to get her fingers in. What kind of paper are they shreeding. I hope no one calls child protection on me, because I don't have an eye on my children from the time they get up until they go to bed. That is a terrible accident, but that is what it sound like what it was an accident.

That is a terrible accident, but that is what it sound like what it was an accident. And I guess my question still is-why did the manufacturer of the shredder have to pay for the accident the parents should have prevented? As to a couple of other comments I saw, it`s understood you can`t watch your kids every minute of every day, but would you leave them alone with a plugged in power tool? And if you did, should the manufacturer have to pay? That is very much like the "logic" used to sue gun makers because someone misused the weapon. And as to the good thing about America is you can leave comment-what`s up with that? You know, another good thing about America is I can express my opinion even if you want to take an attitude about it.

Sounds like the basis for yet another lawsuit in the making. What in the hell is going on in this country?
